I muttered about this many, many pages ago. It has finally arrived. The electrics still need to be sorted, but it is a thing of beauty!

Came across a rumbler in Sam Ash. It sounded great, despite my hatred and intolerance for silver rumblers. Then I remembered I had a new E and A pahoehoe at home, so I bought it figuring I'd go hybrid. I didn't realize till I got home that there's no hatch in the back for stringing. After a moment of panic I figured out you have to push the string in through the bridge, pull it out the sound hole, tie a knot, and continue. So I restrung the E and A with pahoehoe's, and now I have the ultimate ubass. The stickyness of the SR's was only really bad for the E and A anyway. With the treble down, the tonal differences between the two types of strings are negligible. As for the rumbler itself, it feels pretty good. It's got the cheaper die cast tuners which work just fine. There's no toad on the headstock and no hatch in the back. The gigbag is much cheaper and thinner, but functional. I suppose the body is laminate mahogany? I don't know, but it sounds great. Frets are definitely the way to go, for me anyway.

Hi,
Can someone take some measurements for me to help with a ukulele bass build?

What's the width of the fingerboard at the 12th fret?

What's the thickness of the neck at the 1st and 7th frets (including fingerboard)?

What's the string spacing at the bridge?

What's the diameter of the E string?

If anyone can help that'd be great,
Joe

Hello Josiah,
These are my measurements using an analog micrometer:
Width of fingerboard at 12th fret: 57mm
Thickness of neck at 1st fret: 22mm
7th fret: 24mm
Sting Spacing at the bridge g to d: 14mm
d to a: 13mm
a to e: 12.5mm
Diameter of the E string measured behind the bridge towards the strap pin is: 4.5mm
B string: 6.5mm if your so inclined
I got a five string set for an acoustic Johnson guitar I am trying to convert but its is more suited to 4 strings rather than 5.

Hope that helps.

I just purchased a Ubass2 Spruce top (no preamp) from somebody on Craigslist today. I've been wanting one for a couple of years. It's in great shape. After I played it for 5 minutes, after I purchased it, I realized the intonation is way off after the 12th fret.

I noticed the strings were wound around the pegs quite a bit and remember reading something about that. Will that effect the intonation? Is there a way to get the bass intonated?

Thanks!

How far off is the intonation? It's never gonna be perfect on a scale this short.

I'd say about half a semi-tone I guess? Noticeable to where it sounds like you are out of tune when playing above the 12th fret.

I have not spent more than 5 minutes on it yet. I'll know more when I play it tonight and look at it with a tuner. The harmonic at the 12th fret and the note at the 12th fret seemed pretty on by ear. But like I said it sounded out when I played above the 12th fret.
