When you bought them, did they come with a transferable lifetime warranty?

Don't worry about it, I've broken more bass strings in my life than you've sold used U-Basses. :cool:

I learned what I needed to:

  1. Tape wound strings for a u-bass are possible to design and manufacture.
  2. They are desirable and would solve some of my issues with round wounds.
  3. They are un-useable on my present acoustic without butchering both the bridge and the nut. That's not gonna happen until I get a reliable domestic source for tapes. I'll happily revert to Pyramid Round Wounds on it and EQ out the finger noise.
  4. I want some tapes from LaBella to try.
  5. I want tapes that fit the solidbodies to try. I have already made the bridge on my home-built Cali moveable for string length adjustment.
  6. The laws of the physics of music are conspiring to force me to switch to fretless or do a toenail clipper de-fret hack if I want to play the currently available Pyramid tapes.
  7. Much the same as what I read over on the Goldtone side of the world. :rollno: Modify the bridge and make a new nut.
  8. Never going back to pahoehoes on a u-bass. I have a set of dreads on my trusty old Ashbory. That's enough.

Hi everyone, I have a Ubass fretted and when I plug it into my Ampeg is a strange ground noise appear like a bug, I plugged into differents amps and have the same problem. Do you know any solution to that??

Sorry for saying "ground Noise" I'm from Argentina and couldn't find the right word to explain my issue. I looked through youtube and I think that the noise I hear when I play is that 60 cycle hum. I will try to explain more about the hum, when I plug the Ubass to my amp there is a constant hum, that dissapear almost fully when I touch the metal part situated in the ubass plug, but the problem is that I can't play and touch the metal part. I tried to be clear as possible, hope that you understand me. Do you know any posible solution to that?

I don't have a solution for you, but I'm often amazed by how well so many non Americans/British speak English.

Your English is better than a lot of Americans I know.

Some things to try:

Make sure the U-Bass is not facing the amp.

Try a different cable.

Check the amp's ground circuit where you have it plugged in.

Had a similar problem to you Facundo. Eventually had Kala replace the pickup which helped, but didn't completely eliminate the hum. If your UBass is passive, plug it into a high-impedance preamp (10 MOhm is recommended), and keep the cable between the bass and the preamp as short as possible - this should help mitigate the hum.

I took my standard pyramid strings and I wrapped a bit of electrical tape on them where they cross the nut and the bridge. Helped kill some finger noise and added back a bit of the thump I was missing. I'm still not sure if I'm going to keep those on or switch back to the Paehoehoe strings. I miss that low end thump a bit! My string height at the 12 Fret is about 5/32 of an inch. Even with the higher tension it's still quite easy to play.

Bass Strings Online emailed yesterday- he received stock of Labella 21" and 23" copper white tapewounds. :thumbsup:
