Very interesting. First order of business would be to remove the goofy chicken head knobs with something else...anything else!

I don't know. I kinda like them. Since I have a Gold Tone MicroBass, I won't be getting one, but I like chicken head knobs.
I took my Fretless Ubass to Florida after it was repaired. The fret markers needed to be glued down and smoothed. There are too many things about this instrument that are lacking, other than the sound, which is great. It's a very nice $270 Instrument that costs $1100. Kala should send it's U.S. workers to China where they can learn about quality. Anyway I'm keeping this little band-sawed instrument.

It's gone now. $159 is an unbelievable price for this. Even if the tuners and electronic were complete garbage it would still be great for DIY, if the body and neck are sound. A Kala ash body is $185 and the neck is $185. $159 vs. $370. It will be interesting to read some reviews.

If I hadn't grabbed the olympic white one I probably would have gotten this one quick. Its a beauty. Who knows, these prototypes might all be garbage.

Looks like the sunburst solidbody is gone. These things are going quick. I'm very, very curious how these compare to the kala sub solid bodies. Anyone here buy one?

I posted a lot on this thread back in January when I got my reds, go back and take a look, let me know if you have any more questions after that.
Based on davewave's review, they're yet another failure. The pahoehoe's are the only non metallic strings that don't suck, in my opinion.
I've tried 4 different types of strings and the Pahoehoe's seem to work best for me.
My X-Hog U-Bass gets its trial by fire in a couple of hours playing bluegrass at a private party. BTW, it sounds huge going through my new Fender Rumble 100 V3 1x12 combo amp.
Edit: Everybody loved the Kala, band members and some party goers alike made several positive comments on the sound. We didn't stick to just bluegrass but the Kala handled it all without a bobble.
For those with one of the new Rumble V3s (if any) I kept the Gain and Master at 9:00, all amp EQ at center detents, "vintage" button in. Bass EQ was set to about 7:00. Volume controlled from the bass. It was loud enough for this small outside gathering and sounded very "upright-eous"
I may switch over to the Kala for everything.

I've mostly been playing my ubass through the PA only using a fishman platinum eq-di for bass or using my Euphonic Audio Doubler through a barefaced cab and loving either option. Last week the school I work for received a new amp. GK MB115II - sounded very nice through that too. I'm also enjoying turning the volume lower and really thumping those poehoehoes rather than having lots of volume and using a soft touch.
