Kala UBass Megathread, Part 7

Are those just a black version of the flatwounds?
I do not believe so. I think the flats are metal wound, the blacks are nylon.
I've not tried the flats. I also appreciate the look of the black nylon on the Journeyman.

Red Journeyman is now offered at a discount on the Kala site, in case anyone is interested.

I'm wondering if someone can catch me up. I was a big UBasser years ago, and I was active in the mega thread. Also helped along with some string alternatives with Aquila.
Eventually, I wanted metal strings again. While I knew there were metal string alternatives for the UBass, my own experiments had bad intonation because the bass wasn't originally set up with metal strings.
I am noticing for the first time that Kala is now Shipping a coupla models with metal strings. Can anyone tell me: are they altering the bridge placement and nut cut for those, so that intonation is very accurate? If anyone has a recently manufactured UBass with metal strings, can you chime in? Thank you.

I bought a Journeyman in February. It came with roundwounds, as they all do now.
The intonation was perfect to my ear, same thing when I checked with a tuner. A few days later I adjusted the action a slight bit because some buzzing had developed as it was settling into the climate...it was easy and I had no issues with intonation or anything else after I was finished.
I can’t comment whether the nut is cut different than previously, this is my first Ubass.
I’m VERY happy with this bass. Not just for what I paid. I think they are really cool, great and usable basses.
Did you get the red one or the natural? The red is tempting - it's a lower price - but in the picture, that color is looking a bit Loud for me.
I wasn't planning any of this, but I couldn't resist the pricing on the Red Journeyman. I just ordered.

Yeah, the red one for that price is awesome. I thought it was a typo at first.

Weird goings on with that Red Journeyman model. They have been offering it, direct from their site, for 239. Looks like a blow out price. Someone mentioned the color wasn't selling. It Is a pretty loud color. Anyway, earlier today it listed as Discontinued. I imagined they had no more stock. Then several hours later, it is Un Discontinued. Back available at that price if anyone wanted to grab one before the price party is over.

My nuclear looking red journeyman is scheduled to touch down today. I watched some well recorded reviews online, and I was very pleased with the tone. We'll see.

Very curious to hear your review...I really dig mine. I was playing it last night.
If you plan to use it a lot, stock up on batteries. Because these little monsters eat right through them. I play bass an hour a day. For a few months, I had forsaken my other basses for the Journeyman. It went through fresh batteries after a month and a half. When I consulted this thread, I found out that this is about average, if you use it every day. So, I bought an industrial load of batteries.
