Kapok 5 string Basses

A little over a year after a cheap fretless bass thread was started(right here on Talk Bass,I bought my Daughter a Gold flake Kapok fretted 5 string,....$110.00,plus 29.99 shipped;and then I bought Me one too;flat White!really nice maple necks. Seems they are made for,or by Hofner,and as JRA(he has 2 Fretless Kapoks) has said,They Rock;Jazz;Fusion,whatever your fingers can do,..just put your favorite strings on,and go,go,GO.(pardon the enthusiasm,but we are really enjoying that 5th string)I would have bought a Curbow 5,but couldn't find one,`sides,its my birthday,and I`ll play what I want to.Nice Bass for not much money

How has the finish held up on this bass? My son just bought one himself and I'm afraid that it will pick up dirt and be impossible to clean, so I was wondering if it would be a good idea to give it a few coats of lacquer.

Really well,but where you rub,it gets shinier,so you could probably buff a shine into the finish,(I have not).Or tell him not to drag it to gigs,Joke.It should be ok,I`m still really happy with mine.

So do you think there's some top coat on it already? I was thinking it looked like it was just matt paint, so poly or lacquer.

I am really not sure,but I`m gonna guess poly,lacquer would be more expensive would it not ??Now on looking closer,it does show any dark spots,but most clean right up,with a moist cloth-pledge multi surface.Beware scratching it though.

I've just recently purchased and have received mine. I got the sunburst ( 5 String ) fretted kapok bass. So far I love the feel, the action is really low etc. I have purchased some new strings with it as well ( Fender light gauge ). I'm having some issues with my volume, tone, treble & bass knobs. I'll take it in for a diagnosis. Wish me luck.
