Double Bass Kay bassbar "repair"

I cracked open a well used '47 Kay this week and found this- the first time I've ever seen someone drill a hole and dowel in a bassbar; the half a pound of hide glue slopped everywhere was a nice addition. I thought last year's drywall screws through the top took the prize. One thing for sure, there seems to be no shortage of work for bass repairmen in the forseeable future!

Friend of mine just bought a '60 King that had had six holes drilled through the top near the bottom of the bar, adhesive and/or ironwork added, and capped with decorative silver dots. That was a new one on me.

There was a Kay for sale here with drywall screws through the top into the bass bar. Tempting at $100 but not $250. No end to what stupid things people will do.
