Keep my MarkBass or get a Gallien Krueger ????

I thought of this but then I started thinking (I know, crazy huh), that I wouldn't really need an extension cab at 500 watts. What I need is a simple, light, loud combo amp that I can fit in the back seat of my car for rehearsals and gigs that pop up out of no where. If I needed a bigger rig then I've got one already but this amp has it's own purpose.

Been a GK user my whole career, but tried Markbass a couple times- when I attended the Player's School of Music, and before that, via an Ernie Ball Music Man rig. The tone of both was great, but not my thing. Went back to GK after that, and haven't looked back since.

Having said that, it seems it would be easier to simply add a cab to you MB setup and call it a day.

so what did you ever do?

I had the MB Jeff Berlin and as much as I wanted to love it for its power, weight and build quality I just didnt like the sound of the amp. people toss a lot of words around to describe amps, most I which I dont understand. some call the MB Sterile.... this amp was blah to me. made my Ric sound as if the strings were dead. no matter what I did to tweak the EQ it always sounded flat or like I had water in my ears after swimming.

I just got an Ashdown mag series 2X10 amp that I am pretty happy with. I am a little burned that it is not 307 watts as advertised. you need a cab out to achieve that and that made me look around a little. the GK MB210 is a nice sounding amp for the few minutes I played one the other day but the overall tone and features of the Ashdown are more to my liking

Amen to that! I just used my two Traveler 151P cabs with my LMIII head yesterday for a gig. Awesome sound.

The Berlin with a NY151 would sound wonderful. You need to try it and see. Not sure how a Traveler 151P would do with the Berlin since it has a bigger box, but it might also sound great. (I just hear that IDENTICAL cabs is the way to go). Or a Randy Jackson cab? Or Club 151? Anyway, I'd keep the Markbass if I were you and just add to it. If you don't like it you can still make the change to another brand if you want. But, I don't think the GK stuff will make you sound any better.

I own both, well sort of.

I use a MB LMIII with two TC RS210 cabs and my main rig.

For practice at home and working stuff out I use a GK MB112

My advice would be to keep the MB

EDIT. should have read the last few posts . GK rocks...!

I'd definitely say stay with your Markbass. I've never liked GK's sound. The digital amp makes the sound come out so hifi it almost sounds like a computer. I always have played Ampeg (current rig is an Ampeg PF500 with PF1150he cab), which gives a nice heavy, full, and textured bass tone.
