Keg me.

My roommate's birthday is in two weeks...anyone know who supplies kegs in NYC (preferably below 30th)? We found one place so far but it only has half kegs for like 90 bucks, seems a little expensive for a half keg.

They haven't sold full kegs in 40+ years in most places. Only small craft brewers use them anymore.

Those big silver barrels you see coming off trucks every day are halfers, and contain 16 gallons of beer. Something moderate like Bud will run you around 70-80 bucks, real beer will cost you nearer $100. My guess is you are going for quantity, not quality. A keg of PBR or Old Milly is $50-60 in Syracuse.

$90 sounds like a perfectly reasonable price for a good keg in Manhattan, but if that's the cost of a pony keg (8 gallons) that's robbery.

There's no point in getting good beer for this. I appreciate a solid brew when I'm cooking or eating, but for this crap, we're going with the cheapest palatable beer possible. Good beers are a waste on people who generally drink to get messed up (i'm not necessarily counting myself in this population, however I'm not preaching). Furthermore, it's damn near impossible to play beer pong with good beer, it's just too heavy and too much to take. Bud light works to this purpose because it's like freakin water.
