Oh, my mistake then. Anytime I've shipped a bass, it's only costed me like $30-$50 max, insured even, but I always got free boxes etc. etc.
But yeah, from what I hear, Ed is just an all around.... not good guy :p.

I used UPS, but switched to DHL and got cheaper rates. I dunno, I never shipped very far either, so that might offset the shipping. I do always pack very well (gigbag at the least, double box, packing foam).

Yes, but have you ever shipped a $6,000 bass? UPS charges about 40-50 cents per $100 insured, so the difference between a that bass and even a $1500 bass would be Around $15 or so.

Plus I would think the seller would crate it, which would cost a few bucks.

That's also a good point... most expensive bass I shipped was $800.

I heard Melvin play one of these live with the Ritenour/Carlton tour a number of years ago.... very nice (and he's amazing... one of the few guys I've ever heard that can totally cop the Marcus-type sound, feel and vibe on a Fender 4 string, and then switch over to this monster and bop like crazy).

For any interested, there's a nice new DVD by Lee Ritenour that is kind of a retrospective of his career... live in the studio... with an DB player who I can't remember right now, Anthony Jackson on a lot of cuts, and Melvin funkin' on the four string and soloing on the 7.... it's really good... and (I hate to say it), but tone, groove and feel... I think Melvin hit it a little better than Anthony... although some of the unison lines that Anthony played were truly frightening!
