Kevin Scott w/ Gov't Mule

I saw Gov't Mule last night in Austin. Great show. New bassist Kevin Scott is a beast. Thunderous tone, yet articulate. Incredible improvisation. He played a Gibson Ripper about 60% of the time, a P bass about 30% of the time, and a Thunderbird about 10% of the time. The most enthralling bass performance I've ever seen live. The other guys in the band were pretty good too. ;)

I found this rig rundown on Instagram:
JAD FREER AUDIO on Instagram: " | Jad Freer Audio Team presents the Full Rig Rundown with @thekingseye and his bass tech @bottom.cross. Kevin has been using the new Volta Amp, Venere Cabs and Capo Preamp (by JF Audio) for all the @govtmule European Tour Thank you guys Mauro, Giada, Nik, Mattia e Andrea _ _ _ #JadFreerAudio #Gear #RigRundown #Bass #GovtMule #KevinScott"

Go see them if you get a chance! My son accompanied me. He had never heard of Gov't Mule, but by the end of the night he was a fan.

Great band and a great bassist.

But I've never been able to decide if I'd rather have lightning fingers or thunderous tone, I suppose the former follows the latter?
Based on seeing Kevin with Jimmy Herring and the Invisible Whip playing with John McLaughlin and the 4th Dimension doing Mahavishnu tunes, I'd say Kevin has both. He also possesses great stage presence, something not usually associated with jazz fusion except for that Jaco fella. Very lively performance, befitting his busy, but very supportive bass lines. Haven't even seen with Mule yet, but when I heard he got the job, thought that was a perfect fit.
