You and the drummer are twins. eh?
So, I glanced back a bit in this thread -- I'd forgotten the long-winded posts I made just a little way up. I mentioned a buzz I was getting. If I haven't said so already, it looks like the buzz was due to one of the KT88s being noisy. The tubes are in pairs and Kevin Shaw said the amp can run on two (making sure you leave one on each side! Also, an 8 Ohm load will run off the 4 Ohm tap, then.). I tried that and tried the tubes in all possible combinations/positions and isolated it to the one tube. Amp is quiet without it, buzzy with it (though still less noisy than many properly functioning guitar amps I've heard). I'm running it at half power with just the pair right now (Kevin mentioned that his son actually prefers it that way) but will likely go back to a quartet when next I want to take it somewhere loud.
I'm wondering if I just need two matched pairs of tubes or a whole matched quartet to run the amp properly. It will of course need to be re-biased...
Danke.Nice!
Even with the hum, your clips sound really good! Definitely a different tone than I use, but that just kind of highlights the versatility of it. I'm a mids junkie, so for live work, I've been running lately with the mid set at 5, pull shift engaged, pull bright disengaged, bass at 5.5 and treble at 4.5.
The di is really good. We've been recording some of our latest writing sessions off the board, and I'm smitten with the tone. All the grunt I like is coming through wonderfully! And it's quiet.... No noise at all.
The 115 cab Kevin built for me has been the biggest surprise. Super simple, no frills.... Just impeccable craftsmanship. The tone is incredible though. Not the most efficient of cabs out there, but the tone is perfect for me. It has all the punch of a sealed cab (although it is ported), but with more clarity than my Heritage 810. I look for excuses to take the 115 instead of the 810!
Sooooooooo.............you're working with Johnnie Winters' love child?
Here's a cell phone video from a gig we did on a riverboat last year. Not bad for a cell phone, and the tune ain't too fancy, but it gives you a taste of what the Shaws sound like.

Man, that sounds great! Are running flats on your P?
