Hi folks, this is my first post...Been lurking a while...great forum.
I am a piano player / keyboard player...Classically trained, but have played in Blues bands (also in churches) for decades, Roland 700's pianos, and now also a Nord Electro. (Had a Hammond SK3c before).
As for the left hand sonic interference between keys and bass guitar, I solved that in 2 ways. With the Roland playing piano, I split the keyboard and turn down the volume on the left hand. The split point is super easy to start and to change on that board. No menus, just press a button while pressing a key where you want the split.
Result, all the muscle memory of decades of playing is left intact, (sorry), without any sound created so no sone interference with the Bass or anyone else playing down there.
I also can play while literally sitting on my left hand, such as doing high note piano fills in a slow blues (all Right hand stuff anyways), but sometimes when cooking the old style of playing both hands is strong, so killing the left hand sound works.
On the Nord playing B3, the key layout is like a piano, but that is where the similarity ends. Waterfall keys, endless sustain, Leslie effects, etc. equals a style of not only physically playing a different instrument, but also what to play. All totally different. All this I had to learn from scratch on the Hammond and then the Nord, so unlearning the Left Hand style from the piano was not much of an issue.
Once again, great forum!
ps...and then there is the situation in reverse when the Bass player doesn't show up, so the BL leans over my keys and says, "this is the bass line...play it"...Happened during a big festival show during Bike week...Bass player was stuck in traffic, I played the whole first set of tunes, at least one of which the band never played before, it was fun!
