Khan Tube DI Users

No cab sims, Khan straight to the desk. I can’t imagine wanting any more to the tone in my IEMs.

I used a REDDI for a few years and never had any complaints. But it looked like I had a few flights coming up where we were asked to bring carry-ons only. Fine, except fitting the REDDI into a backpack was a daunting task. I had read about the Khan VTDI and bought one. It was perfect! (Turned out to be only one flight after all, but no regrets). And I’m still using it.

I had a brief fling with a Summit Audio TD100 tube DI/preamp. After a while, I decided to sell the Khan. But when I hooked it up to test it before I listed it, I was amazed again at how good it sounded. I wound up selling the Summit instead. It had more knobs than I needed and the Khan fit better on my small pedalboard (which has only the Khan and my tuner).

My Khan runs slightly warm to the touch, even in summer outdoor festivals. No concerns there.
“the Khan fit better on my small pedalboard (which has only the Khan and my tuner).”

Sounds like a perfect board!!!

@Geri O: since you have used a REDDI and a Khan, how would you compare the tone of those two DI's? And if you could keep only one of those two, which one would you keep and why?

Oh, geez, even when my hearing was in half-decent shape, I could tell only minor shades of differences in the tone. And different! Not worse or better.

Still the great tube DI feel I'm used to, not sure if I get the B15 feelies from it, but I certainly like it very much. Very similar to the REDDI. And a bit cheaper to buy.

My hearing has taken a deep dive these last two years, so I'm glad I got familiar with the Khan enough to trust it will deliver the tone I like whenever I play. And ALL the soundguys I run across really like it as well. None of them have ever said, I'd prefer you use my DI instead of your Khan.

To answer the question, I would and will keep the Khan.

But we have a REDDI at the church where I play, so I don't feel the need to take my Khan with me when I play at church.
