Killing it with only a Fretless Mexican Jazz?

His bass player in that concert was a professional bassist from Whales. I saw his name mentioned in one of the comments but I forget it.

The bass player on the tour was Andy Caughlan, IIRC. On the album was Pino, who is indeed from Wales.
When I started playing Fretless I had only one Bass, I went for the sink or swim method. I played Fretless exclusively for years.
Sire first gen. and MIM Fender are of similar quality, but second gen Sire hits significantly higher (at least the one I have does).

Whenever I see it, it checks all my boxes, even if it is not the most economical option.
I have a first gen V7, that's an outstanding instruments. Worth every penny. Even sold my MIJ
I love most of those basses; however not really a 5 or 6 string player. And don't get me started on ABGs-unless it's custom-made or an Ernie Ball Earthwood. The only acoustic bass for me is an upright-and I love mine.
I just bought a 2003 agave blue MIM fretless and so far I am loving it. I spent 3 years where I only played a 4 string fretless and I loved it. Unfortunately that bass was damaged beyond repair. I have a feeling this is going to be my daily player.

Fretless only here. I keep telling myself I should get a fretted bass just to have one, but I'd probably convert it anyway.
I know what you mean. When I get tired of playing fretless, I go play my upright.
Me too, and having a lot of fun exploring it. I swapped out the classic bridge with hi-mass and have been experimenting with flats vs rounds. Really a new experience from the fretted.
I played this at the gig last night. Was going to swap over to fretted for a couple songs where I usually use slap technique. I got lazy and played everything on the fretless, and was amazed and how good the slap sound was, especially considering it is strung with flats. I now feel as though I don't need to bring the fretted to the gig and I am not compromising anything. If I had just followed accepted convention I never would have tried it.
I should note that the bass is strung with Ernie Ball Cobalts, which are quite a bit brighter sounding than most flatwounds.
