Kinda dead roundwounds, anyone like 'em?

Not a fan... I been using DR Sunbeams and after a while, the intonation is wonky. I mean, the octave is still perfect, but some notes on the 2nd and 3rd strings between the 7th and 10th fret, sound 'ambiguous'... Notes above and below sound right, just dead.
BTW, wouldn't tapewounds give a tone similar to dead rounds?

I don't mean dead as a doornail, but just a bit dead. You know, the zing is gone, but they aren't quite lifeless. They are a bit subdued, but not completely crap yet.

Does anyone like this phase before they go belly up?
I tend to appreciate strings at every phase. I like brand new strings. I also like them as they deteriorate. I also like them when they are four years old and almost sound like flats. But then I change them back to new ones and go "why didn't I do this a year ago!?". I tend to like everything to be honest :)

I prefer rounds with life but no zinggg.

My DR Hi Beams have been on since March and they are just getting to the final few gigs. Then I'll change them and have to endure a couple of weeks with that zingyness!
