King Koa - Now With Nordy's!

Not easily, all of my inventory is boxed up and shelved to avoid dust here in the new building. I'll try to do that, though, next time I break one out to record...
Pete - I compared my Bardens with the bridge PUP in the two Lull PJ5's that came in today. No dice, the Bardens are quite a bit bigger & the side ears are in the wrong location.
I'll still try to compare the Bardens with one of the Lull J's once I get one out of the box again. I don't expect a different result, but ya never know!
Gracias Greg. I forgot about your shop moving production (I sincerely hope that is going well, nothing like moving furniture, instrument, etc. in Virginia summer heat).
..........I just played my Lull M5V with new Sunbeams into the GB SL 900 and Berg cab - NEVERMIND.
The sound is flippin' awesome. I am keeping my baby! As is. The slap tone and 35" scale is ta die fahhh (Inserted exaggerated Boston accent for Gard if he's lurking out there).

I don't think so... I've been recording direct pretty much exclusively...
It sounds incredible, for whatever that's worth.
I'll try to rig up a mic setup and generate a clip sometime soon...
Here's a post with a sound clip where I recorded direct and mic'd the NV-610 w/ tweeter, and then I shared the results.

I've been wanting to try these Delano pickups since I first ordered the Nordys that are currently in King Koa. I'm still quite pleased with the Nordys, so I'm not in a rush to pop 'em out. It's just that I had narrowed it down to Nordys and Delanos way back when, and the Delanos only just now arrived (they're made in Germany, so I guess they're a tad hard to come by?).
I think the next thing I'll actually do with a soldering iron will be to give the Bart NTMB preamp another shot in King Koa. I'd also like to try the Demeter preamp if anyone has one of the Roscoe ones (4 knob configuration) laying around that they'd like to get rid of (Joe? Crash?). I also still have my Mike Pope preamp that I had in my Warwick Thumb many moons ago, maybe I'll give that a shot, too...

I loved Gard's advice to me the other day. He was so polite about it, too, he wouldn't come out and say it applies to me directly. He said something like "whenever guys change things over and over... they should just stop. Just stop."
Well I say fooey on that! I love trying to improve my tone. King Koa's not going anywhere, I just want to make it the best it can be for me!
So please let me know if you have a Demeter pre setup for 4-holes. I'll take it off your hands in a heartbeat!

Nothing wrong with experimenting I suppose, though I thought it sounded great with every mod you've done.
Heh, long as it's reversible I say go ahead(contrary to earlier advice, but why not have fun!). I actually swapped out the pre in my Gadow recently, because something was making me hum and haw about the East.

If you weren't swapping pre's about as well as the pickups, I'd have suggested some of them quick-connects that some makers have been using.

When I was going through school, a couple times a year I'd have "evaluations" done to see if I could stay in "normal" school.
It goes the gamut from put the blocks in the right holes to pseudo psych test where they ask you ignorant questions to test reaction. So you won't go postal in algebra I guess
.Well during one of those "talks" with the dork in penny loafers and Caddyshack pants I made the unintended mistake of saying "I am my own worst enemy". Meaning I am more critical of myself than anyone else.
Needless to say I got to talk to Captain Inkblobs for TWO days that year. He musta thought I was John Lennon reincarnated or something. Seems that in his book, I am my own worst enemy, had a hidden meaning ala the Walrus.
Back to your regularly scheduled programming.

My sis is in a similar situation. She's looking into driving, and she's gonna have to take lessons to prove that she can take lessons.....

Dude this is the reason I'm about to be 34 and have never had a license.
Lets just say for the price of the school I could get a Signature 6 string Roscoe built AND a new rig.

Changing the preamp and p/u's is by far the lesser of the evils. And it's always a bit exciting because you might just hit on that perfect tone!
You're right though. You've got an awesome bass. Don't let it go anywhere!
Just keep fine tuning it until you find the exact sound in your head or until you get tired of doing it. I haven't heard anything that you've tried (in that bass) that didn't sound good.
On with the tweaking! 
I look at it this way, just because the house is built doesn't mean you can't change the wall color from time to time.
I'm in a similar position where I have a non-Roscoe bass that I love, but the tone is just slightly off due to my growth as a player and my taste in music. So I swapped my Bart originals for Bart CB's for about a year, tried some different strings, put the original pickups back in but in a slightly different position (I have a mismatched "dual jazz" setup at the bridge) and switched to passive. The OBP-3 is coming out and a Pope Flex Core is going in. At some point, I can see trying out a Bart NTMB as well, but hopefully the Pope will be what I'm looking for.
Now for the personal interest portion... Are those Delano JC5-HE's? I've got a quote on something very similar since Chris Stambaugh indicated that he thinks they would be what I'm looking for. Fat and warm at the bottom but with a smooth extended top compared to the harsher top of my Bart X45K's.
I agree with the others that have stated that each swap you've done has been a different flavor of yummy, but I'm looking forward to tasting this one too.

Matt - you are correct, they are JC5-HE's. Yep, that desription drew me in like a moth to a flame... I was on a waiting list for 4-6 months. Long enough I lost track of how long it's been. LOL.
4-6 Months?!? Wow. I'm being quoted 5 weeks. I hope they are worth the wait.

I got on the waiting list on the first store where I found them. They're the folks who gave me all the info, so I was happy to give them my business. I wasn't in a real rush since these Nordy pickups I have now are quite nice.
