I had a black 5-string that I bought from Bass North West that I hated at first. Pickups are too polyphonic for me, so I quickly replaced them with Bartolini pick ups which totally changed the bass. IMO it is not a slapper, but totally a fingerstyle bass. I paid 800.00 for it, and only got 585.00 for it on Ebay. If you want a jazz style bass get a Fender.
I have one. It's not bad, it doesn't have the original pick ups. I had some trouble with the pre-amp and the pots, but that was limited to one of my Burners. It seems very nice, and is very playable. It's obviously nothing like a real Ken Smith bass, but it is nothing to turn one's nose up at.
