That said I usually carry a spidey para 2 in CPM-M4 love that steel

Any of the estwing axes are quite good for the price. The balance is not as good as a wood handle axe but they are next to impossible to break.

wow I thought my obsession with Global kitchen knives was geeky enough. You all make me look normal again so thanks for that ;-)

So my Globals are workhorse knives. Sure grip, great balance and highly utilitarian. I'm the primary cook in the household...

Are the knives you all collect objects of art ? Or is there a utilitarian aspect as well. I have a folding toad stabber in my tool box that comes in handy once in a while but if it went missing I'd get similar utility from a Stanley box cutter...

I definitely enjoy the aesthetics and playing with my knives, but I also carry one at all times, so they do get used/serviced. I don't have anything too expensive to lose ($200 or less). If I get another, it'll be a rather expensive Benchmade. I'm having trouble justifying that purchase.

So: Fun and pretty but all used and useful.

Can I ask why the love for M4? EDC's are 154CM or S30V. Future purchases would come down to M4, 20CV, or S90V. I've read the basic differences, but as an EDC why would M4 be your go-to?

I used to be a Spydie fan; I own several, most of which are now out of production including a Bram Gunting fighting folder. My daily carry at the time was either a Native for general out-and-about, or a Salsa for box-cutting and utility at the workplace. At this point they're more collector's pieces, in large part because most are irreplaceable like-for-like, and my usual daily carry these days is a cheap Kershaw Barricade.

My requirements were a plain-edged blade for easy sharpening, assisted-open for fast deploy without being illegal anywhere, and a belt cutter and glass breaker for rescues (including self-rescues). The Barricade meets all that at a $25 pricepoint, so I have three, one that stays on me and one for each of two "go bags" (one in the car trunk, another in the house). And if I happen to lose one, unlike a $200 S30V-bladed Spyderco (insanity; the Gunting was $125 and by far the most expensive one I ever bought), I kick myself and go order another off Amazon.

I also have a couple Smith & Wesson-branded knives; they're not assisted-open but they flick well, check the rest of the boxes and are very comfortable in the hand, and I trust the build a little more than the Kershaws (both have full double liners for strength). If I'm heading somewhere I think I might actually have to play for keeps, I swap out for one of them (and in such situations that isn't the only trick up my sleeve).

I may have to put one of those Barricades in my car and in my bug outfit. Not sure what I'll actually use them for but who knows...

M4 seems to hold an edge alot longer than most with little maintenance. Its tool steel not stainless so it's not perfect.
It's nice to have a knife that rarely needs sharpening with lots of use .

Wouldn't consider knives as an investment but can be fun to collect.
Some have a solid market for resale some can sell out in minutes or even seconds .

My latest acquisition...Eafengrow EF2

I really wanted the Civivi Brigand, but it was three times the cost, so I settled for this Eafengrow. Gotta admit, as much as I love the other Eafengrow I'd bought a few weeks ago, this latest one disappoints. First of all, no pocket clip. Secondly, and more importantly, there is no flipper lever on the underside, just thumbstuds on the sides of the blade. But the thumbstuds are located so close to the frame that I can't get my thumbs under them enough to flip it open that way, so it's become a two-handed operation. It's a nice quality knife...heavy, solidly built, hefty blade, but it definitely is not a flipper despite having the ball bearing pivot. Some minor improvements on the design are needed, IMO.

20. Bucks for G10 scales and on bearings seems like a good deal,
although im kinda afraid of slip joints . Just need to he careful withem...

So, almost 3 months of EDC and I am really liking this knife. Good grip, easy open, good edge retention, light weight, and solid.
I know it's a Gerber, but, it's good.
I still don't know what model it is, but I know it's a carry I worry about less than my old Spyderco, and it's a better weight and size than my Kershaw.
