Go for it. The Barrage is a nice knife. I have one. I don't use it much because I am not that into assisted openers, but its a solid knife. The axis lock is really good. Not as failsafe as a frame lock, but it's a fine lock.

Well I have have one (not M4), so you're saying an axis lock isn't the best? I believe you but can you link anything?
The axis lock has a fair amount of moving parts that will wear down over time. Its spring has been known to break over time. Google "broken axis lock" and I am sure you will find plenty of stories. But it is still a great lock. Like I said when we started this discussion, I love them. Plus, Benchmade has a great warranty and they will repair a broken lock. I wouldn't worry about it.
Design looks to owe a lot to a Zero Tolerance 0200.
Very sad they're out of production. Very happy I bought three when they were $140

Honestly I had gone almost a year between knife purchases. But something told me I needed a another 4"er which led to two more plus another 5"er (the Sanrenmu in post #224).
But this time I mean it when I say I'm done buying knives. (Just like the last 15 times I said those words...)

I own the kitchen and for daily use, where no bones are involved, I use this Santoku. It and my Japanese chefs and slicer replaces all of my Wusthof knives with the exception of the ice blade filet knife.
As a kid I got one from the Johnson &Smith catalog (you could get cannon fuse and all kinds of fun stuff). The knife had an embossed jaguar on the side. The steel was crap though. Maybe their better now, or a different factory. This was in the early '60's.
I am a big knife guy, I make two or three a year and have a huge collection. Most of them are mid grade with a few high-end knives and a few historical blades.
I always have a SAK of some sort in my pocket.

That would be the Mercator "Black Cat Knife" K55K, that the American soldiers got from the German soldiers in WW2. I learnt about the Mercator from an old deer hunter who was in WW2 and got one from a German soldier also. The steel might be better, it's a new manufacture that makes them now. I seem to recall you couldn't get it super sharp.

The K55K is available with either a C75 carbon steel or a stainless blade. I can't speak for the stainless variants, but the carbon blades are easy to sharpen and I can get it very, very sharp. It was the Saturday Night Special of knives for New York street gangs in the 50's, when it sold for four or five dollars. And the lock up on these knives is pretty impressive for such an inexpensive knife. It's the kind of knife I carry when I might be abusing the knife, or might lose it. Good to keep in the car. A disposable beater knife, if you will. Comparable to Opinel and Douk Douk knives.
