I fought live steel for almost 20 years. We were always looking for swords that could hold up to the abuse and the Starfires weren't very pretty but they were affordable and held up well. I still have a few somewhere.

A few Starfire blades there!
I fought live steel for almost 20 years. We were always looking for swords that could hold up to the abuse and the Starfires weren't very pretty but they were affordable and held up well. I still have a few somewhere.
Picked up this Kershaw USA yesterday. Damascus steel 'Dividend'. Sweet little knife (only 3/8" thick) will do a lot, but won't replace a bigger knife for work.
Toronto (or online) peeps. Went to S&R Knives in Etobicoke for the first time. Wow! They have every knife and brand you could ever imagine (must be 5000 knives). Nice guy running it tunes each knife to your desires, and sells scales, pocket clips, and parts. Busy place full of serious enthusiasts. I have no affiliation with them, but if you're shopping and like to feel the goods, this is knife mecca.

On the left, a Panabas, a Filipino sort of battle axe.
Next (on the red plaque) a Javanese Keris. That's the one with the wild damascening.
Middle - an Indian Katar, a push dagger with a thick center spine, designed to be armor piercing (also designed to be strapped to the forearm).
Next - the sheath for the Keris, because a) it's pretty; and b) I'd lose it otherwise.
Far right - and Indian Talwar
Bone canvas micarta on the Bowie. Excited about how it will patina! Also a ZT 0562 for fun.

I picked up this Kershaw a few weeks ago and it's turned into a nice carry.
Of course you can carry whatever tickles your fancy, but to me that's a weapon, not a tool. I already get 'big, scary knife' comments on carrying a Benchmade Griptillian for work, and downsized for my daily carry.
Same thing here. I always carry a knife, and I use it as my fidget toy a lot...flicking them open, cleaning the blade, just having it in my hand, etc. when watching TV for example. At work I'll be sitting at my desk, in my office, and do the same thing at times. I also use it to cut my fruit/sandwiches and open any boxes/packages that come into the office.
But last week, I get called into the boss's office, and was told that our office manager was feeling 'uneasy' with me playing with my knife. I was incredulous. I said, "You mean the SAME office mgr who (over the past NINE YEARS) regularly asks me to open those boxes and packages, and even asks me to slice up her apples for her on rare occasions?" Even my office mate rolled his eyes and said that while he sees me fidgeting with it, it's never in a threatening manner. I even showed the boss that the knives in our office kitchen have longer blades than my EDC.
I have downsized from a 5" handle to a 4"er, just to appease the neurotic old hen, but it still ticks me off how after working with me for nearly a decade, all of a sudden she has a problem with it.

Curious which knife was it?
I vary my EDC often but lately it's been one these three...
I might add that we are a construction company, and some of our superintendents and foremen are in and out of the office all day long. Every single one of them have an EDC clipped in their pocket, as do four of the six other guys in our office, so it's not like she's never seen one.
