Knot or not?

Considering a purchase of a bass online and have to rely on photos since it's overseas.

Everything else seems good but looking at the pictures, the fretboard has a characteristic that I can't tell if it's knot or simply wood grain character. I'd be inclined to pass if it's a knot.

What are are your thoughts?

Looks like figure. Ask for more pics of that area. Probably nothing unusual.

I don't see any cracking. Whatever it is, I certainly wouldn't worry about it.

I think you have more to worry about it being an overseas purchase.

I think an overseas purchase is more of a problem than that area of the neck.

Natural wood figure, not an issue at all.
I guess if it bugs you, pass on it.

Otherwise if you can't take it, you could always dye the whole fingerboard darker.

And yes these days overseas purchases would be more concerning.

That is nothing. BUT be concerned with the back side of the neck. Knots, grain patterns going every direction. You want north/south grain patterns

Yes, the back of the neck seems clear and blemish free.
