Hell yes!

Start off with no boost/effects, with the tone subtle....

Midway through a slow number crank that tone open, pedal in boost/grit/effects (bonus points for a tube screamer + resonance filter (think claypool:bassist:)) and play intricate slap/pop till they convert to serving you as the band master!
Remember, quadruple time relative to the song and lots of shredding runs in the upper registers!:D

Best of all bring a EADGC tuning for maximum guitarist irritation.

If that doesn't get you the gig nothing will:p

The ad does come off as a little douchey, but I agree that there's nothing wrong with being up front about what you're looking for.

In my experience, though, these kind of people tend to call it "my band" when it comes to making musical decisions and "our band" when it comes time to cough up money for recording time, gear, etc.

I don't think so. There is room in her music where the bass player is indeed given a very decent amount of freedom.

I just read your bassist wanted ad. I did not read it on Craigslist, but on the talkbass forums. It was put there because of how ridiculous the post is. I am not sure whether to laugh or cry at the prospect of meeting people so deluded, self important, and just plain wrong out there in the music world. Thankfully, though I have had my share of douche bags, I have not run into anyone quite at your level. A tip of the hat to you, sir. You are a master douche.

Now, I could cut up this entire posting, but I will focus solely on one point: the part where you say a good rock bass player should focus only on rock. You are an idiot. If you listen to any good rock bass player, they will tell you that they draw a wealth of inspiration from listening to all sorts of music. The same is true for other instruments as well. My main instrument is the guitar, and listening to other music made me a better rock guitarist. When you get right down to it, rock music is a very loose term for a melting pot of just about every type of music out there.

Back to my point. In my opinion (and of many others) the greatest rock bass player ever is John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin. He says he barely listened to rock, and took influences form everything else. Here is the interview where he says this: John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) Bass Lesson (Part 1) - YouTube

I could keep going, but you are probably too stupid to grasp this. I would love to hear your "music". Can you post a link of some since you are so great?
