Double Bass Knox Gelatin as Glue

Getting back to the uses of Knox gelatin, I use it to seal the spruce on tops of all the intruments that I varnish. It works great with either spirit or oil varnish. You do have to be careful it doesn`t "dig" into the previous coat, much like appling spirit. I never tried it as a glue though.

Just a note to the Vegans out there: When you eat Jello, or anything made with gelatin, you are ingesting animal protein. Also, I believe supplement capsules are made with this stuff. Envelopes which require licking general use refined hide glue (called "food-grade"). :hmm:

AFAIK, just about anything made of gelatin has an Agar-Agar (less hoofey, more seaweedy) based substitute on the market. I don't know about envelopes though.

Better start those tests - I'm gonna reglue my bass bar with Agar-Agar and report back.
