The pickups are phenomenal. They don't get the love that the Nordstrands do when TB talks Ibanez, but I played some and they are my current favorites. Here's hoping I get around to some of my modding before things change too much.

After still poor sales under Fender they were finally laid to rest.

SWR's story is not far from this also. They were on life support before Fender.

If you're going to keep bringing up Tobias, keep in mind Michael chose to sell and take the non-compete. He wanted out of it. Then he came back with MTD. MTD instruments are stellar.

I'm sure had his son not agreed to join the company, MTD would have been on the market. These guys aren't getting younger and can't keep building and managing the business forever.

I think in every case the owner wanted to sell. Nordchow definitely wanted to sell Eden.

The point I am making is that Gibson drive that company way downhill. Which is precisely why, among many reasons, MTD was able to thrive.

Yes.
Which is why people should not be making comparisons to other companies that were almost gone already being bought by a larger company then disappearing.

I believe Aguilar are at their peak currently with a lot of room to still grow, while Sun and SWR were going out of business before Fender.

Genz-Benz seemed to be doing well before they were canned...at least Korg seems more likely to keep Aguilar going than if Fender bought them.

KorgUSA has a pretty impressive list of companies. I didn't know that they own Darkglass (who people on tis site seem to love), Waldorf (the synthesizer company), and Sakae (which is a manufacturer of (I think) more boutique drums). To my knowledge those companies are still well respected, and still do their own thing (Waldorf had pretty much dissolved about 15 years ago, then came back with a stripped down product line, and now they're making very cool innovative stuff).

So, my guess is that Aguilar will still be Aguilar, and might even be able to introduce products more frequently with more horsepower behind them.

I must say, one of the nice things about the many smaller companies in the bass world is that it's very easy to connect with the people. Although I don't know them personally, I'm Facebook friends with Dave, and Dave, and Roger Sadowsky — people whose stuff I use and love. And we get to interact with them here without having to go through a spokesperson. Hopefully, that will never change (My guess is that it will not).

Hey Everyone,

First, the garlic farming thing was a little tongue in cheek. Me and the missus bought a house this summer that came with an amazing vegetable garden. We have green beans, eggplant, cabbage, lots of ghost peppers, and.... very tasty garlic! I put this in my personal facebook post to friends; but the music press picked it up as if it was a press release. Anyway, I am very much looking forward to having some free time and being able to have a hobby or two. I hope that you can appreciate a little joking at myself about becoming a "garlic farmer"; but who knows?

Nothing wrong with garlic, or the farming of it (although driving by large fields of it is aromatically... noticeable). The comment just seemed very random, and was unexpected, and therefore funny.

This is it, and what my ears listen for. The fatter tones... still modern and articulate, but located in the live music sweet spot

I don't understand why many TBers here are concerned! this is just business. Nobody buys a successful company to ruining it and loss a lot of money.
