Double Bass koussevitzky

One of the greatest.

It is amazing to me that people were smack talking him not long ago on here. The ignorance of the collective internet knows no bounds.

His Bach interpretation is superb as well.

As one of those people I'll be the first to say that his Koussevitzky and 3rd suite sound awesome. That's one of the best Kous. 1st movement performances I've heard. But that doesn't change the fact that in that old masterclass video he made a point to stress the importance of counting rests in Mozart 39 and then... straight up didn't count any of the rests.

I really wish I had been able to hear that when I was learning the first movement for my college auditions...he takes that first cadenza in such a different direction than I was thinking of it then, and I love it. Really works.

Speaking of the op's specific video in particular, is it just me or does Ibragimovs right wrist take on a really funny angle right as he begins all of his up bows? almost like his up bows come from his wrist and forearm as opposed to his upper arm and shoulder, then again it could just be the angle of the camera.

I'll say this is a great recording, but I don't think its perfect and in my mind certainly not on the level of Gary Karr's(its hard to compare it with piano instead of orchestra anyways). One thing I think is sort of odd is that he never stops vibrating, and its always the same intensity of vibrato. The other thing is, and this may be do to the conditioning of listening to other interpretations over and over again, some of the shaping doesn't move me as much as other recordings Ive heard.

Criticizing the nuances of his Mozart is tired and worrisome. These are clearly not audition videos. These are rapidly recorded suggestions on what one specific non-paying job might expect from applicants. Perhaps the maestro drank a cup of coffee prior to this simple toss off. I challenge any who might contest his skill set to post equally musical and well-intonated examples, and additionally, to please let us all know what jobs said challenger has held on par with LSO.

It is irksome at best that this collective community would dismiss the playing of one of our greatest and most successful players on the basis of a single video. Clearly, the man plays the bass well enough to be at the helm of one of the greatest sections in Europe today.
