krank dirty valve D-800

There was a youtube video of Krank's prototype bass head, which looks nothing like this. Their bass head was going to be all-tube and the youtube recordings made it sound quite awful. It'll be interesting to see if this one goes anywhere. I've been seeing less and less Krank guitar heads these days, even within the metal community.

hmmm...they take a class d power amp and a tube pre and mount it in a 4 rackspace box. then they mismatch drivers in a cab the size of an 810. yeah, i'm sure it sounds great.

and let us not forget the fantastic "go-faster" paint scheme..........

gotta admit, i aint feeling it on a purely aesthetic level. though truthfully, "krank" isnt a go-to brand for me in any dimension.

I agree - that IS a goofy looking amp! :p

I'm no fan of the aesthetics, logo, associated genres, etc... But - a quick anecdote:

At a big festival country show, the guitar player I was working with were hanging out backstage while the headliner soundchecked. Not a fan of the headliner that day, so I won't elaborate, but both of our ears perked up while the rhythm guitarist started to check for the foh... The tone was amazing! We peeked up onstage to see the 'artist/lead player' had a huge rack full of vintage heads - Marshall, Vox, Bogner, Z, etc... However, the sounds weren't coming from onstage. We finally tracked down the rhythm guitarists rig under the stage & lo & behold- it said KranK. We were both surprised & baffled. (the 'artist/lead' guys tone sucked royally, btw...)

I guess you never can tell how something can sound in the right hands! (Not that I'm planning on running out & buying a KranK half stack anytime soon!)

krank's been around for a while now, so it's not like they can't throw together a good guitar amp. but this is a really sad excuse for a bass amp. it's got all the earmarks of a disaster...way too big head for what it does, horribly designed cab, and ugly. that's a crappy bass amp hat trick.

I want to make a case that those Stryper green-room practice amps (that I know you like so much) are just as ugly... ;) But, I can't. That KranK bass amp is just silly! :p

IMHO another brand slugging around Dimebag Darrels name to move product.

It'll be interesting to see how they do in the long run.

But frankly, these are too expensive to really be succesful. Getting a foot in the "micro market" usually requires a small (relative) price tag.

Who is going to buy a $1200 KRANK instead of a $500 Markbass?

Also wonder where "this was made"..... Either built and assembled in asia, or built then assembled in USA?

Part of me says it wouldn't be cost effective to totally build a class d amp in the USA?
I'm pretty sure Markbass is just assembled in Italy, with Asian parts. Rather misleading! Unless i'm mistaken.
But heck, what do i know. I'm just a consumer! ;)
