I had no idea someone was still making these. He makes them under license I guess? Wish one of these had been in reach for me financially when they were available new.

How cool!!! I used a 9v pre, in a custom build myself. I friggin' love it!!! Doesn't sound (too much) like my '86, 18V, serial #299, but... it DEFINATELY has that Kubick "thing" going on.
NBD - Any LAKERS fans out there?

I have always considered the Ex-Factor one of the most exotic basses out there. Of course, this is just my opinion.

I figured 'saltydude' put $50 and I was just blabbering and throwing with a couple of zero's :D

I've checked reverb and there are some asking for $3k and their condition is better than mine. But if mine is worth $2,500 and less than the ones on reverb, I'll accept that decent valuation for the condition and color of my bass :cool:

Your bass is one of the first 305 Kubickis built (with a very nice colour). You won't have a problem finding a home for it, for a bit more than you bought it for.

Mike was working with Phil Kubicki, building basses. He knows what he is doing. It is great that you can still buy a brand new Kubicki. I have two and cannot justify another.

I have #223 (also black) so we are pretty much neighbors. It's in great shape but does have player paint wear. I grit my teeth and paid $1750 for it back in 2010 or so. No way you'd get one for that now, of course.

Black may not be one of their fancier colors but it looks great!

I call my Ex Factor 'Katana' because the neck to headstock it looks like a samurai and Kubicki name sounded like a Japanese name :D

Thank you, the color looks like a wine red (dark burgundy w/ a little met.)
Number 305 in 1986 and it sounded really old :roflmao:. I'm not sure and if anyone knows, what year did the Ex Factor 4 first built/produce?

Better answers to come from the gurus on this forum, but for now: 1986 was the year you could buy Ex-Factors retail but a working and 'close-to-final' prototype was done in '85.
Buried in these club pages you can find info on when FCS started/stopped making the 9V version and other nuggets. You can ask Mike Haney at the Kubicki site for other trivia.

The first Ex-Factor I bought (used) in '94 was an '86. This is before I had a computer so I had very limited information about Phil's basses other than a small pic of one in Tony Bacons book and what I learned on the phone w/Phil after purchasing it. I sold that bass years ago for financial reasons. oh well...

I had no idea this would ever be an option. Does anyone have feedback on new offerings? I had the Pamelina boob bass many moons ago. It might be fun to get a new one. Pamelina assured me that he's also a better artist these days.

Mike Haney can build you anything, guitar or bass / electric or acoustic. He had set up a bass for me and I visited his shop. Had I not found a very nice FCS, my second Kubicki, I'd consider a new one.
Having said this, I don't know anyone that has commissioned a post-Phil Kubicki.
