Kubicki club, part 2

Kubicki yellow or white. The style and shape supports any color.
I have a boring black that was repainted by phil in the mid 2000s.
Id like a cool color or one of the two color ones but now I'm just being picky.

I've always wanted THIS one (can't find the picture of the one I've been looking at all these years, this is a relatively recent one from a Reverb listing):

I find that other Factor photo-bombing at the lower left a bit amusing. Who knows, maybe the burst one on top is also a Factor?

well played - I played one of the few he made (pre FCS) in the mid '90s. I would have bought it but I just bought my black '86.

I happen to know where a unplayed original 85 in Coral with the OEM strings resides. I never asked the owner what he wanted for it because at my age and point in life I’m not a collector any more.

Also from my research there was only 10 originally in Coral.

Defiantly isn’t a wrong answer. I prefer the 18V board for its three passive settings. Haven’t had batteries in my Factors for years.

I ended up switching to 9V because it seems a little less complicated and mostly so I get a tone control in passive mode.

The 9v was only for the fender run right?
I almost never touch the rotary switch. I like the flat active and give it a small bass and treble boost and bam. Kubicki tones fly

I've owned both 18 & 9v. I never used the passive settings - only active & active boost, so I prefer and use the Fender/Kubicki 9v version (with adjustable trim-pot) in a few of my bass's. I personally feel the "Kubicki sound/tone" lives in the active settings. I respect those who feel otherwise - just stating my insights/preference owning/playing both.

I've searched and haven't found anything. At the beginning of this video a 5 string, not the Key Factor version, is shown. Did that ever go into production or was it just a one-off prototype?

I've been reading the old posts starting with Kubicki Club part 1. Currently at a part where they're recommending a $12.98 9V battery from Radio Shack. I don't know why that was extra humorous to me, but it was.

@RichSnyder I love how dedicated you've come to the Kubicki club.
I was the same way when I got mine and spent weeks just digging into a rare history but an amazing piece.

BTW it doesn't matter what battery you use, I use the expensive batteries because I find they last longer.

Kubicki batteries last forever anyway. The 18v especially never run out - replace them every coupe of years just incase they start leaking (this happened to me - did the gig on passive, and I had to resolver a new batter clip).

Good luck finding a used one - Ex-Factor parts are pretty rare on eBay & Reverb, or anywhere else. I imagine you can get a new one but not sure, and don't know what they would ask for one. I bought mine from Phil in '94 for $500, so they would be more now if available.

Yeah, I had a sweet trade deal worked out on a red FCS fl a few months ago but I got sick and had to bail on the meet. By the time I was well enough it was gone. Looks like the current owner has it on eBay for 5 grand. I don't need it that much.

I did a search for "tapewound" here a got "no results found" so I'm asking, has anyone tried tapewound flats? On Kubickis, I haven't even tried regular nickel or stainless flats, but recently discovered that I really like the tapes that came on a couple of new non-Kubicki arrivals.
