L.E.H. DEEP CUT 5: LowEnd Lobster Review

This is the most impressive bass I have heard in a very long time. Lobster mentioned that the luthier, Ellis Hahns, who makes them, worked for Roger Sadowsky 19 years, I think. The preamp on this bass definitely shows Sadowsky influence. The tone actually reminds of the Modern but with significantly more clarity and it is capable of a more subtle slap tone too. The price of this bass is out of my range. I am buying a Metroline Sadowsky this summer and that will be my retirement bass. Besides an inexpensive short scale for travel, I don’t see me buying anything else.

This LEH is definitely taking the Sadowsky influence to the next level.

Yes, pickup select post and volume are wired backwards.

Is that being recorded with a mic in the room and just the ambient sound from the cab? Honestly, I don't like the tone of the bass. But if there is no DI or mic on cab, then that might make sense and why I don't like it.

Meh. Same concept as mouse wheel direction for scrolling.

I mean, like he says, all you have to do is take a soldering iron to your new bass to fix it! I wonder if that's covered under warranty?

There is precedent for the reversed knobs/pots. Both the Custom Kraft Bone-Buzzer and National N850 basses had the leads reversed on on of the tone pots.

I think Lobster has a DI running there, and we're also hearing a bit of the room mic used to capture the voice. or, maybe it's a close-mic'd cab as opposed to a DI.
I agree, the only reviews of the sound of a bass that are truly informative are those done with a clean DI, no processing whatsoever.

The Sadowsky blend kinda makes sense if you look at it like a tone knob. Brighter one way, deeper the other. So, it does the same thing tone-wise as a passive tone knob. When we want the neck pickup we want a deeper sound, we really don't care which pickup that comes from. So maybe backwards isn't?
