Labella FD760 ultra light .83 gauge strings on violin bass ?

Hi all, about two years ago someone had temporarily left an old hofner copy at the studio where i was working, don't know who it belonged to and didn't inspect it that much but got to play it a little bit, it really felt great ! and i loved the strings, they felt really light so when i got home i ordered some smaller labella flats for my hofner copy,

got the smallest gauge i could find .96 on the E strings, i've had those strings on my bass since then but somehow they've always felt like a heavier gauge than the one i had played in the studio, now surely the bass model has something to do with it, but i've always wondered.

Today i stumbled upon the labella 760FD specifically made for dan electro longhorn basses, they're especially thin at .83 for the E strings, wondered if anyone had stringed a violin bass with them and how they sounded, couldn't find much info on those strings other than dan electro owners so would very much like to know before i order them as an experiment.

An option might be to purchase a medium scale set, discard the E string, use the .080-.085 A as the E, purchase a high C string ( around .030 ) and you have your ultralight set. Talk to La Bella about it.

I have done this before and it works well.

Let us all repeat the mantra:
1) measure from the string anchor (in this case, in the tailpiece) to the tuner side of the nut;
2) measure from the string anchor (in this case, in the tailpiece) to the middle of the E string tuner;
3) purchase strings with a speaking length or winding length from ball to the start of the silk or taper that is between these two measurements, irrespective of what the manufacturer calls them, whether "short" or "medium."
4) in this case, you are in luck. La Bella makes sets of strings especially for Beatle Basses (Hofner 500/1, related models and copies). +1 on contacting La Bella with questions.
