Cobalt flats sound modern indeed. If you want something that more or less sounds like Thomastiks but with a more normal feel, get the Dogal Carbonsteel flats. Normal tension, very well balanced (no mud or oomphy stuff), E and A string have regular gauges. I quickly put them on my Burns, my Mustang (custom set) and 2nd Fender P (my flats P), and I feel no need to replace them for the upcoming years.
