Lakland 5594 Weak D String

Hi,

Has anyone had issues with weak strings on a 5594? Ive had 4 pickup changes with LH3s and each time a different string is weaker than the others. It's a new bass and in fairness to Lakland they have done loads to help but the bass now has a weak D string.
Any suggestions? Change to barts?

The bass has actually been back to Lakand and they have installed new pups.they also sent me a few pups in the last few months but each set seems to cause an issue on a different string. Lakland have been very helpful but I still have a brand new 4500euro bass that I dont enjoy playing. It is a really great bass and in general plays lovely but I have to avoid the D string as the sound drops off on it. It first happened in the A then the B then the whole mm pickup failed and now this final set has a weak D. I have a desk full if dud Lakland pickups in my studio.

So the fix is to replace the pickups with other brands? I also have the A string problem and was hoping to use the LH3 since I like the sound. Is it possible its a batch thing since I dont see other Lakland owners chime in.

Ive ordered a set of Nords so will let you know how that goes. When I contacted Lakland they said some players notice it some dont so that means its common place but not always noticable. Its a pity that I am hacking a new bass and maybe I wont like the nord sound but its a headwreck avoiding the weak D while playing. Im all over the neck trying to dodge the dead D.

Sorry to hear about that! I have NO problems with my 55-94 - I replaced the original Barts with the Lakland/Hanson set when the original preamp died. I have had that bass for 13 years now - my wife bought it for me as a surprise. Shock was more like it!

I need to show your message to my better half as an example of my next present from herIm sure the percentage of wonky LH pickups is small and I've just been unlucky. I'm hoping the nords wont take from the bass sound because it sounds great,just not balanced.

Exactly know how you feel. Had an eyebrow war with our pianist when I did a few jazz runs and ended up playing on the A string, just throws you off. Its kinda sad if were stuck with "some players notice it some don't" response.

I also have a new bass which arrived 2 days ago, a 55-14 from Amazon. Played the first day and everything was fine. Next day I noticed the D and G string was weaker so isolated the pickup coils one by one. Turns out the bridge coil on the MM pup only gave around 5% output on the D and G. Checked the control cavity and underneath the pickup for some loose wires, nothing. Put it all back and it was fine again. Played today and its all good. Hope it doesn't come back at a gig in the future. So I'm just now left with the weak A string issue. All in all kinda shakes my confidence in this bass.

You'll love this so,playing a gig tonight with the 5594 and the front strap lock screw came loose and wont stay screwed into the bass,im telling ya this bass is jinxed you can balance the A string issue a bit if you set the eq bass flat a bit of mid and treble boost and then add bass on the amp,also change the dip switch in the cavity to get more low mid,
