Lakland 5594 Weak D String

I remedied the issue to some extent by lowering the bass side of the pickups and raising the treble. Its at somewhat at an extreme angle and the only problem now is that the G string is the only one louder than the rest.

And yeah the strap button on mine was a bit loose when I replaced mine with schallers. Did the toothpick mod to tighten it and hope it will be fine. Done it to my other basses tho and none failed so far.

Do update us when you get the Nordies in. Im thinking of goin that route. Cheers

I did the same with the strap button,match pieces and wood glue.the screw is good and long so I didn't need to get longer ones. The other good thing is the 5594 isn't too heavy so hopefully it will hold. Next job...nordies

Ok the nordstrands arrived....anybody any idea where the wires go?

Ok Nordstrands installed, lovely simple install, kudos to Nordstrand for having the wires prepped. I did my first gig with them last night and it was only wonderful, all the notes and strings are balanced and as I was playing I did ask myself one question....why would Lakland not just install Nordstrands in the 5594 instead of the LH pups, or at least make them an option.

Now in terms of sound the Nords are a little more aggressive in the mid range and have more top end than the LH but of course the LH3 pre does control the tone very well. The only negative would be that the amazing low B tone from the LH isn't quiet as clear with the Nords. Im using a Fafner2 with 2 by 210 prolines and the Nords seem to work well with this system. The rear MM is a lot more powerful than the LH version and the J is less punchy but the balance is quiet good. The bass has a more Musicman sound now than than the LH but that's not such a bad thing.

All in all the swap appears to have been a good investment thus far. While I feel I have changed the 5594 by doing the swap out and a purest may tut a bit I can now enjoy the bass for what it is, a top class piece of engineering and a bass for any type of gig.

Late to the party....But mine had Bartolinis and never had that problem

Seymour Duncan was the other option for the bass....Stingray style

Love the "burpy"ness of it, really a lot closer to a stingray now. That seals the deal for me, I'm getting those nordstrands. I'm a bit sad it changed the sound, but I don't want to be distracted by the issues it currently has.

Thanks Low End Bottom. I've done a few more gigs with these since and they seem to work really well. I did a gig with full bass and top on the LH last night to see if it gets too boomy but it was nice and fat sounding. As murphy has stated you could try Duncans or even a set of Barts if you wanted the original Lakland 5594 sound.
