Lakland Makeover?

I played an Amber quilted top 55-02 and loved it. Duh. I have a couple basses without pickguard and always jack up the finish with my thumbnail, no matter how close I cut it. I can get a pickguard on the bass.

1. Should I get it and put a pick guard on it? if so, what color; white pearloid?

2. Is it blasphemy to put a pick guard on this top?

3. Get another finish with a pickguard.

I understand that some people love the look without a guard but mine came with one and I'd never really seen a Lakland without one at that point so it was all I knew.
