And since Dan and crew won't build a 6er YET... :) something must hold me over

I had a Euro 4 LX. It played well, balanced well and all. it was just way too hot and modern sounding for me.

Coheed and Cambria's bassist used to play Spectors, and he sounded GREAT! Now he plays vintage reissue F**der jazzes that sound too farty for their stuff IMO.

If I ever get to meet 'em, I'll heckle him about switching to JOs, hahaha.

Thanks Evan. If I can get a similar 55-94ish tone out of her, she MAY see some gig time. But, only if I need the C for some future songs. I like to keep it as simple as possible when gigging... an extra string on stage could be catastrophic!

Ever have a brain hiccup while gigging? I do :D.... like where (for a milli-second) I totally forget everything including my name. NOT FUN!! Early stages of Alzheimers probly :bawl:.

Porcupine Tree's bassist (Colin Edwin) also used spectors and sounded good... I don't like the really hi-fi basses though. Spectors, Fodera, Sadowsky, even some Laklands. They sound sterile to my ear. I prefer the "farty" sound of passive traditional style basses

BTW, I rehearsed w/ my 55-94 yesterday after several months of ONLY using Sexual Chocolate. I realized what Carl meant about the Barts (pups and pre) being hifi, and the CHIs being aggressive, ballsy, etc.

SC's got more growl fo sho, and I found myself using the 55-94's pre for the first time yesterday. I had to boost the bass considerably to get her sounding close to what SC does.

I also realized that I'm SLOOOOWWW to get a "feel" for a bass' sound/tone, takes me weeks evidently :rollno:. But, at least now, all my Lakies will see gig time, I'm gonna use the 55 for the songs that require a mellower tone, SC for the aggressive stuff, and Proto fretless for the 1 or 2 (hopefully more in the future) songs that "feel" like they need her MWAHHH. :)

I kinda figured that you did :).

Funny thing: me and my GF were watching the Coheed live DVD collectors set (cost us a fortune). And even though she doesn't know "bass-speak", she said "is that the bass? It sounds like a fart!" I died laughing :D, and then explained how that's a VERY desirable sound for many bassist. She looked at me like I was an idiot :D and said something about "guys DO love fart sounds" or something like that.

I must say, I did have 2 fart simulators on my iPhone for a week or two, lotta fun at work :D. Pulled a great phone prank on my boss: got a female coworker to call her... "I'm stuck in the bathroom *fart sound*, I'm sick *fart* can you bring me *fart* some TP PLEASE??"

I laughed 'til I cried when I saw her run to the restroom.

I think i'll keep the SR4 til the end of time...it's pimped out right now with black hardware and i took the single coils out of it so it's just a single H with a nordie MM4.2

plus i don't know if i dig the amount of space that is left between the neck pup and the fingerboard...that's just a personal preference, though...lots of people probably can handle it.

Ah...gotcha! I like the Human Bases, but not close to the Laklands.

Yep!

On a couple of occasions I've forgotten songs (as in what it sounds like), bass lines (had to make up new ones on the spot cause I couldn't remeber the one for the song), how the song begins, etc.

There are usually good reasons for the lapses (too much traffic in my head, not enough practice during the week, alcohol, etc.). When I control the variables I do just fine.

I wouldn't worry about Alzhies, unless you start forgetting what a bass is for or what to do with your car keys.

Otherwise you're pretty normal.

Forgetting is the norm...I am more surprised when I remember

I had a Euro 5 that I traded away for my first Lakie. I found it to be an extremely comfortable bass to wear with great ergonomics. It had an intensely aggressive sound that is ideal in the right circumstances.

But I was never able to get it to behave itself in the mix. It was always too aggressive unless I just eq'd everything back so far that it lost any character. I also seem to remember that the neck was thicker than I cared for then.

It was a great bass that is very well made, but I wasn't the right player for it. But it did lead me directly to a Lakland....
