you're not going to check the #1 at Leo's?

right now, i've got other priorities and it'd just be a 'fun' purchase since i've already got the SR4 converted to single H. plus i've got another purchase that's happening, and i've gotta put $$ into that.

AND...i'm not into the whole money order thing...Leo can't use the CC machine and doesn't take paypal. That's kept me from it, too.

Weirdly, there weren't so many pics of Comrade Che to be seen during the times of the Soviet Union. His portrait on posters, T-shirts etc. is rather characteristic of the recent years. Ironically, it has become a post-socialist icon, a mass production item of consumer goods. I wonder how'd it happen that nobody has made a photoshop mockup of this pic in the Andy Warhol style yet.

Randy - she looks GREAT on you!!!! nice to see it getting some good lovin and a workout at the same time.....would love to hear ti sometime....next time I am in Indiana I'll give you a buzz.....

if you will never sell it, I just MAY have to get a copy made....

AO2 - the return of pulp!!!!

or the AO signature series????

Hey Dougie, we'll be in town the weekend of September 12th, and I'm going to try to get her in for a setup on that Friday, so maybe we can get some of the Chi-town crew together for a little bit!

Me neither....the P-pickup is where I rest my thumb (mostly)...but - it DOES look cool (especially on THAT bass!)!!!

Honesty hour time... before I got the pickup cover, I COULD NOT get comfortable playing it. I've always firmly anchored my thumb on a pickup or cover, and something about the P pickup just didn't feel good at all. I actually started pondering whether I could keep it or not! But once I installed the cover, it felt magical, and I can even keep my thumb anchored and pluck at the bridge for that tighter, bitier sound. So I guess to each their own!

I'd do it if I was a socialist:-)

Really love that video. I still watch it every so often. You did a great job!

Yes I can! I'm happy to talk about it.

So obviously the goal of that video was to see if the LH3 guts could pay homage and cop the tones of the 3 vintage basses. It was an ambitious project to be sure. Talk about iconic instruments. I was pretty nervous to be honest - so was Dan! But in the end, he was pleased, so I was pleased.

I recorded tons of footage that we were going to use for other video spots. For instance, there's a shootout between the LH3 electronics and the Bart system. There's also a detailed description of how the knobs were set for the various basses. There's also a section that focused on how the Lakland could take those vintage tones further and offer up something new - with a signature Lakland twist. That footage hasn't been edited. And I'm not sure if it ever will be.

BUT - to do the tone copping, I want to let it be known that I DID indeed use the EQ. Although I did NOT mess with the mid switches inside the control cavity. Unfortunately, I can't totally remember exactly how I set the knobs for every sound. Honestly, when I showed up to Chicago, Dan and I sat around the SVT and just played basses and fiddled with the knobs until we had what we considered to be accurate portrayals of the vintage basses. We just used our ears and would look at each other, shrug, and say, "Right on - that sounds pretty good to me!"

But common to the Fenders was a bit of treble boost, and bass and volume CUT. For the P, I remember pushing the midrange a bit too. The Stingray had a bit of treble boost. The Stinger was the tough one in my mind. To me, Stingrays make their tonal mark in the high end and that can be tricky to cop - especially with different wood (rosewood vs. maple boards for instance).

In terms of amp settings - nothing was changed between basses. The rig was dreamy - an SVT-VR running through an Ampeg 610 and an Epifani 212. But only the Epifani was mic'ed up (with a Rode NTK condenser). The 610 was just pushing air behind me to make me feel good! We ran a DI also, but I think all you're hearing in the video is the mic track.

Hope that helps! But seriously, it wasn't rocket science getting the sounds. Dan and I just used our ears.

Ian

Cool! Let us know where you're going to be and your schedule, Randy. We should be able to figure something out.

My touchscreen is not working!!

I had it glitch after an app download last night (screen still worked, just NO apps would function), did a SYNC with my 'puter when I got home (fixed the apps).

But, then my GF said I should do a RESET. After the reset, the touchscreen function wouldn't work :(. Any LOGers know a quick fix for this?? I don't know if I'll have time to take the phone to an Apple store before rehearsal and work today.

Thanks guys and LAKLANDS RULE!! and they never freeze up ;)

Is it an active or passive iPhone? Nickles or stainless? I think a tort guard would make it better.

Sorry dude! I couldn't pass it up! Hope you get it working!

lol...you break em we fix em! weeee tech support!

i'd try reloading the OS...which model do you have? There's a new released update right now...3.01 i think.

Ha, didn't think I'd have time to research it online....

But, it EVIDENTLY is a common issue. Found an online step-by-step (lucky for me since I'm a dufus when it comes to this stuff) fix.

Got it working again already WOOHOO!!

Thanks Jesse....... not so much thanks for Markus :eyebrow:

although a chrome and tort phone protector would look a lot better than this bulky black foam and plastic guard that I have on it :D

Hey...didn't know you had a Human Base! Damn...you go through a lot of basses! What don't you like about it? I mean...what makes it not as good as a Lakland:-)

I wouldn't say i don't like it, but it's the only one (of two basses) that i'd want to get rid of in order to finance the latest purchase. I think i'll keep the SR4 til the end of time...it's pimped out right now with black hardware and i took the single coils out of it so it's just a single H with a nordie MM4.2

plus i don't know if i dig the amount of space that is left between the neck pup and the fingerboard...that's just a personal preference, though...lots of people probably can handle it.

anybody got any experience/opinions of Euro Spectors?

I've got DR Burkowitz's 6er coming to me :hyper:. It seems to have similar construction to the Peavey Cirrus basses I used to play/love: 35", graphite rod neck support, etc etc

And since Dan and crew won't build a 6er YET... :) something must hold me over

He he he! Glad I could help! NOT!
