Emailed Rotosound re my bad E, they sent me a new E and a whole new pack! It's a nice gesture and one I thought I'd pass on.

I'm going back to my tech to restring it with Rotos. The Dunlops are good but I want to see it play as usual and without the shim he put in before I restring it with a new brand.

hey LOGgers! It's been a while.
I just spent $750 fine-tuning my SkyDJ4, so hopefully I'll get some pics up soon.
I intentionally made it as inconspicuous as possible, so maybe I'll with soundclips instead?
Anyways, the shop I had work on the bass wired it incorrectly, so it's at ANOTHER shop getting the problem fixed..... Stay tuned!

Keep in mind that when using the "Multi Quote" overall counts will appear to be reduced for those that comply. Likewise, this feature also reduces the speed of meeting the 1000 post limit per thread and increases the time it takes to reach the limit.

Of course, we also have concurrent/new discussions over at the LOG forum as well.

I want to join. What's my number?

$750 "fine tuning" it???? what did you have done? you could have ALMOST bought another one for that!

How's the A/B going with the these two Scheffs?

Tell her I miss her...

Well, my Candy Apple Red Jerry Scheff 4-String ELF is back home with a "Clean Bill of Health" from the Smokin' Toaster himself - Tony O.

Been there, done that, got store credit. Doesn't it drive you nuts when shops don't know what they're doing???
I found out that the thing was wired out of phase. What gets me the most is that I mentioned my suspicions, I was told that "that's how a jazz bass is supposed to sound." I REALLY wish I'd brought my headphone amp to listen to it.

Don't say that, man! You're makin me feel bad here..:bawl:
Well, you remember how I was always complaining about my DJ? It was indeed in need of a fret level fresh out of the shop at Bass Central. Can't believe I lived with that for so long.
Anyways, the fret level was $250, and for the heck of it I bought an Aguilar obp-1 for $100 and had it installed for another $400.
How much do you guys usually pay for similar jobs?
It might've been the location (san francisco) that caused the high prices...

If this exact model which I've grown to love so much hadn't been discontinued, I might have moved onto another one.... but I just couldn't part with it..... :crying:

Yeah, so here are some soundclips of the thing active, but completely flat on the amp and onboard EQ.

..and it seems I can only post two attachments per post.

Here's where the problem starts.
Out of phase when blended.... and then back to normal after getting it fixed at another shop.

I'll post more soundclips in the future (such a pain to get things setup) with the EQ that I like. Boosts of around 80% bass and 50% treble.
No need to touch the mid cuts on my amp now, that's for sure..

We used a long extension cord!!! Make that a very long extension cord!!! j/k

LOL! is hte the Bee's stinger?

My main axe for all my gigs now is the candy apple red 55-01 i acquired a couple months ago. 5 to 6 gigs a week plus some road work and it's held up beautifully . Sounds great every night and i've really been finding my style with this axe. Awesomeness!

wow....that is alot of playing! where do you play?

hmmm..."that is the way a J is supposed to sound"? NOT!

Fret level for $250? uh.....next time send it to Carl at Chicagobassdoctor. even with shipping it SHOULD be less than that! the price for the pre sounds cheaper but the install seems pricey....

overall...you like it now?

She's so nasty!! Her dual Chisonics and LH-3 are perfect for Third Obsession stuff! She'll be used for the 3 song EP that we're currently recording. :bassist:

Her purpleheart pickguard and cavity cover are probably close to a 1/4 inch thick LOL, and she's lost a lot of finish from bucklerash, sweat, and friction from all the gigs...

check out her crazy-@ssed birdseye!!!
