I guess I scared everyone away with my question?

Now I'm leaning toward an American Standard Jazz--liked that one much better than the Special.

However, my questions about the Skyline JO/44-60s still apply...thanks!

Sorry, I missed the question. I've not been around as much lately as usual.

For me, the American Standard line is the pinnacle of the Fender lineup. In Fender's increasingly granular price-point spectrum, I can't really figure out what the American Special is supposed to be. And honestly, I find the feature-set on the American Standards to be very, very good. Ditto the construction quality. They're a whole new thing for Fender, in that they're *almost* universally brilliant.

I'm the index case of 'don't buy before you try' on the Skyline series. I'd not suggest you go there. Since having my issues with my original Skyline, a few other people have mentioned having similar problems, but none of them seem to have had as hard a time getting the issues fixed as I did. My current Skyline (another amber 55-02) is a much better beast.

Post-buyout Lakland seems to function a lot better, but I'd still *strenuously* suggest that you find some way to try a Skyline first, or buy from a retailer with a generous return policy.

By the way guys; I don't know *how* I forgot about this, but I used my 55-02 on all songs but one (track three, which was my now-sold Godin A5) on my main band's debut CD last year. Soundclips are now finally up on CD Baby: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

As you can tell, I got a pretty wide variety of tones out of it. I think the pup config's one of my favourite setups.

sorry to hear that. Did you contact Lakland directly? What is your impression about customer support?
I must admit I've never had "issues", only things that I personally would like other way, but Lakland were always fast, supporting and generous.

Hello. Today I received an immaculate Skyline 55-64 (Glaub) from a TB'er here thru the classifieds. Being my first Lakland I don't know if this is characteristic of them or not. The tone control significantly reduces the volume when turned counterclockwise past 50%. Obviously it reduces the highs, but the more you turn the knob, the less volume you get down to almost none with all the highs rolled off. I played it thru two different amps. Never noticed this on any of my Fenders or my Sadowsky. Any ideas?

So I finally got my first Lakland in the mail on Monday. Bought it from the TB classifieds. A 2004 44-02. I love the feel and sound.
Do I get assigned a number now? :D

I haven't witnessed this phenomenon before with a Lakland. Contact them (there's a link on their site) and tell them about the issue, they should have some advice or possibly a part...

Thanks. I did just that a couple of days ago and, gotta say, their customer service is fantastic. Leo at Lakland offered to fix the bass at no charge or send me the part. This is a used (though only 4 months since purchase) bass and even though the warranty is not transferable, they're still standing by their product. "Eggcellent, Smithers!!!"
