You have 44-01 Natural Fretted
This one's a 44-02 Natural Fretless
Different pickups, neck, and added coil selection switch. However, the body and head design are the practically the same...

I would be hesitant to cut into a beloved bass--as I assume you'd have to do to put the bridge J pickup in (and would definitely have to do with Chis). How about buying a "dual J", a US Lakland with the body and neck of the 55-94 but with jazz pickups already installed? They're rare, mind you. But my good friend has one for sale and it's a beauty. (I've played it.) It also has a pre-routed cavity so you can pop in a pre. Scroll through the thread to see the dropped price.Help me with my tone dilemma......
my main axe for many years has been my ash/maple 5594 with LH3. Recently I acquired a Lull MV5 ash maple, with Fralin hum cancelling pickups and Bart pre. I have fallen in love with the tone of this bass, but still favor the ergonomics and feel of my 5594. Should I mod my 5594 with Chi sonics or single coil jazz style pickups to get closer to my tone desires? I have also considered picking up a 5501 and modding with big singles as a test before modding my beloved 5594. What would you do?

Yes!
Now here's a guy with the option of going RW Fretted or Ebony Lined Fretless merely by turning a few bolts on his very clean IncaSilver Jerry Scheff 4!!!
And Yes! I miss that bass!
