I remember John or Dan discussing weight and its effect on sustain. It was mentioned that stoopid light basses have a higher resonance tone, adversely impacting the sustain of the bass.

Most of my Lakie's come in at +/- 9 lbs. - not too heavy and not too light.

I've owned MIK and MII Skylines, and I never saw much diff in weight, it's such a highly dependent on the slab of wood chosen, and to some extent the design/amount of wood used, rather than anything specific to the factory they were built in.

Maybe was John?
I do not recall mentioning that one.
I always thought lighter ( less dense) woods can often have less sustain?
But then again, what do I know? LOL :hiding:

I think it is not a generic thing.
But unique to various woods types maybe?
I recall Mahogany and ash being mentioned as woods providing stronger sustain.

I know I had an all mahogany LE Ray 30th anniv. that had a mahogany neck and body.
And that thing would let a note ring forever.

I was hoping to get the last post in on #55 BUT alot of action happened after I went to bed last night!
