Yeah, I agree this one off Markus Mai-Tai 44-07 with Ebony Board is indeed a work of art.

I'd be hard pressed to part with it.

I'm calling this the "Heaven and Hell" trip...two weeks in Norway and two weeks in Saudi Arabia. But at least I have three nice long layovers in Amsterdam! I'll think of you when I'm having my "coffee"...

I'd love to, but the longest layover that I have is actually 3 hours. Not enough time to leave Schipol. Next time I'm over, I will schedule at least 12 hours.

No...he bought it brand new...store just received it from Lakland only two days ago...the only flame topped Lakland's I've ever seen were the "limited edition" 55-02

I have one of each. I'd say the new ones do feel somewhat lighter. The leather handle on the new one also makes it more comfortabole to carry.

I agree on teh leather handle...nice touch

There are indeed a few flame maple top Laklands out there. I have a flame maple top fretless 4-94.

Aside from mine I think I've seen maybe 4.

So I made the mistake of stopping into a local shop today and they have a *MINTY* 2003 Skyline Jerry Scheff in Shoreline Gold...asking $999...said that they would deal. I know that this is a very rare bass, but I'm gassing for a 44-60. How do they compare? Can the Scheff get Jazzy?

I don't have a Scheff, never played one in fact, but given the nature of it's rarity, I would be tempted to plunk down and give it a spin. If it's not for you then, I'm sure you won't have much trouble selling it or trading for the 44-60 you're after. It does have two single coils, so in theory it could get "jazzy."

I had a shoreline gold skyline Scheff.
Was a great bass.
I only rolled it to buy Doude's US Scheff.
Both have great tonal range.
And they can get really snotty and snarly.
I have never owned a Fender jazz.
I do own a US Spector which has 2 Aggie J pups in it, with Aggie pre ( not exactly a Fender, LOL)

I would say the Scheff can do pretty much anything you could want it to.
Like Mister Shadow said, give it a rip and if you do not like it?.... it is fairly common finding 44-60 skylines here on TB for sale.
Sure someone will trade ya for it.
Or ya can sell it quickly to spend the $$ on the 44-60.

Ya never know?
Ya might come to really love the Scheff!

Did a search nothing found, so can anyone tell me how the dj4 skyline compares to the 44-60 skyline in feel and sound ? any insight would be appreciated. THanks jnum.

sound wise...similar (for the newer models)...the older models were different...more "modern" (than the JOe Osborn) as they had Aeros and 44-60s had Fralins.

feel./..the neck profile is "rounder" on the DJ and the body is slightly smaller....different play feel for sure...
