I bought this JO recently here on TB. Seriously the best bass I've ever had, and I had a lot..

Congrats! That's a really nice Joe.

Having been playing most exclusively my Lakland DJ4 for more than 5 years now, I sold most of my other basses and only keeping that one along with my faithful Rickenbacker 4001V63.... I just cannot find anything comparable to the Lakland, really... Also, with the J-Retro preamp, it is even better !

Go all the way with Lakland ! The best necks and feel out there !

I know exactly what you mean. When I picked it up for the first time, I thought to myself, "what is this non-mediocrity I hold before me?"

There you are! I was just asking Doug last night if he had seen you around the boards. Good to see you back in this neck of the woods :)

Thanks. I've had some issues outside the boards to deal with. Life is sorta beginning to settle down a little. And I'll be at the GTG.

Hello fellow Lakland fans...

I recently introduced a buddy to my 55-94 and he fell SO HARD for it that he picked up a cherry sunburst maple fretboard 55-94 about two weeks later!!!

It's gorgeous...but one thing struck me odd about it

It has a FLAMED maple top and came with a "tweed like" case

Can anyone help me with this mystery? Last I knew, all 55-94's were quilted tops and came with that cream white case...

Thanks :-)

The white cases are no longer made and have been replaced with the "vintage" case.
Theyre meant to be a lot lighter and more durable.
My white case is damn heavy but it looks 100x better so im happy i have the old case :)

As for flame top, i suppose someone 'special ordered' it like that from lakland.
Did ur friend buy it used?

Yep, just received a 44-94 I ordered and it came with the vintage tweed case. Not a fan of the style myself either. Especially as the bass I ordered was completely blacked out. Just looks out of place presentation-wise. NBD though.
