DJ4s with CSs look pretty cool, too

Nice!

I have a really cool story on how I obstained this bass. It used to belong to Jake Willeman, who played for Clint Black. The source who owned the bass at the time wanted a Spector Bass that I aquired, formerly owned by Chuck Rainey, and he wanted my Spector. He said he had a photo Mr. Rainey playing the Spector, so I swapped him even for it, thanks to Dan Laken, who introduced us. This was probably 15 years ago. I am playing it here at a Motorcycle Ralley at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth Texas, with our Band, The Sons of Thunder. I have recorded with it many times, it is more wonderful everytime I plug it in. Thanks again Dan, you created a fine instrument.

what I mean to say, Dan, is that of all those fancy top ones I have seen recently arrive at BC and BCC, they have all been 5s. Mark at BCC said he did not order any 4s with the fancy tops.

Doesnt mean "couldn't happen", just "hasn't happened yet" (other than that Koa 44-60, which is also droolworthy)

ah HA, so there is hope :)
:hyper:
I always liked spalted tops and buck eye burl tops.
Maybe they can whip me up a 44-94 in one of those when I decide to lay down and order new?

I have no doubt, Dan. The "pre-made" US Lakies with those tops that go to dealers like BCC and Bass Central are probably fivers because five-string players tend to be more fancy.;)

agreed, but would depend on if the search for the top wood adds crazy time to the build? ( bet they get that wood in small batches here and there?)
And how much more it would cost?

I'm not the type to stress the build time all that much, but the price can be a different story. Bass Central's got a 4-94 Deluxe for $3600. The up charge from quilt to buckeye burl is noticeable: right below the Deluxe is a buckeye one for $4320.

Yea saw these before on BC.
REALLY love the one BEB one that already sold.
The figuring is off the charts with eyeball!

Would be even nicer if they did a MHS on it.
My Alembic has a mahogany body with zebra wood top and a matching HS in zebra wood...looks amazing!
