Lakland Owners Group #60

I know there are a few folks out there with fretless JO4's and JO5's. I'm considering a fretless Skyline JO5 or fretless 55-02 (may sell my Jazz 5 to help finance/make room). I've sent an email to BassCentral. I've looked at Lakland's dealer page, but that's a lot of info. One shop that is close to me will not likely ever get my business, so I'm looking around. What other resources would you recommend (publicly or privately)? Anyone have any idea how available these are or how long the turnaround is to get either one from the company?

Thanks!

Bill,

Bass Central is your best bet. I bought my skyline JO4 custom from them and got a good deal off of their listed price by dealing with Beaver. Bass Emporium in Austin is another possibility but you will have the TX state tax to pay. I'm assuming that your referring to the shop on 59 and Shepherd, I won't deal with them either. The JO with concentric knobs is an incredible instrument. I'm totally enamored with mine.

I see that Bass Emporium doesn't show Laklands in stock, although I've played several of them in their shop in the past. I need to call them.

Yes, that is the same local vendor. Sad that you can't deal with someone so close to home.

Thanks for the info!

Another option would be to contact Lakland and see if they have any new or NOS necks that they could sell you. Of course thats if you can find a JO cheap enough to make that worth it.

True. When all my basses sell, I will be in the "new bass" neighborhood. I have a few jobs coming up, so that would not be a worry. I really like the DJ5 also, but a 55-60 custom B/B fretless in sunburst could be an eyecatcher. A fella can dream anyway...

Happy Birthday, Markus! Have a great one, my friend. Sooo...do you get separate gifts, or do you have to wait till Christmas?

Sad thing is, he is an "old bastard" who is still a good deal younger than this "old bastard"....blah to aging :(
Heh, +1 I'm afraid!

The two Birthdays I liked the most were 16th and 18th....hahaha!! ( what I can remember of them at least?) :eyebrow:

The birthday I liked best was 40 last May, the bass in my avatar was my gift to myself, and the missus set me up a party and mini-gig at the pub where my band plays most regularly.

I get the feeling that 41 won't be the same.
