hi again ... I'm the guy who scored this LOG P5 last week in a trade. Got a chance to woodshed it by myself today for a long time. What an easy and nice bass to play! A couple of items:

- there was discussion that this bass was made in Korea (and PLEK'd in Chicago). I checked it today and it says "designed and finished in Chicago, crafted in Indonesia." So just thought I'd clarify that.

- it has rounds on it. I've transitioned to playing almost entirely with flats (the Jazz I traded for this Lak was my last bass with rounds on it, I think). Any suggestions pro v. con with putting flats on it, and what kind?

- the tone knob doesn't seem to have quite the same "sweep" as the tone knob on a P (of which I have several). My imagination? These are Hanson Vintage pickups.

FWIW, I put GHS Precision Flats on my Duck Dunn and I really like them.

The pots are both 250k audio taper with a .047 cap. Hope this helps.

Skylines have been made in Indonesia since late 2008 after the Korean factory closed (not Lakland's choice).

I have a Hanson Vintage pickup in my US Dunn/Glaub 4. I use the tone knob a lot and think it gives me quite a bit of tonal variation. Ymmv.

Hey Lakland brethren... I received a GoPro Hero3 camera for Christmas and have been working on setting it up for use on-stage to revitalize my 'bass cam' shots from a year or two ago. I finally got a mount system that worked well with bass and tested it this weekend. Got a couple of cool vids! I have been playing my 55-01 fretless exclusively for a bit to try and firm up my fretless playing a bit. Looks cool in the videos for sure!

'11-07' with Brushfire Stankgrass (an original of mine). Weak solo and spotty intonation... overall performance is good though. - http://youtu.be/zJ-7skqDv0o

Have any of you guys noticed that the Skyline quality has degraded over time? It seems the more of these basses that I pickup in stores the more I notice issues, such as very rough pickup routes, poorly fitting neck/pocket assembly, and the worst of all is that the necks are not properly aligned such that the strings gravitate toward one edge of the fretboard near the heel (the treble side typically it seems). The last issue mentioned I'm seeing on a 55-02 that is otherwise perfect, but the strings drift by about 2mm at the 22nd fret, putting them right on the edge of the fretboard such that they roll right off if you aren't careful. This just isn't acceptable for a bass with a MAP of over $1400.

A few years ago I purchased my very first Lakland, a brand new skyline JO. It had a horrible neck joint and the neck pickup route was big enough to put two pickups in (not really but it was really big). I called Lakland and they told me that was normal for routes under a pickup, and the neck heel connection gap was within specs. I could not stand it and moved it on. Later I picked up a used 5502, which does have some drift in the neck you mentioned but not nearly enough to cause any playing problems, and otherwise the rest of the instrument is really great, a korean one though. I just got a 2010 4401 and it is really well made and has no issues, one of my best players. So for me, 1 in 3 was bad.

Hello Lakland group,

I just bought a used 44-64 Inca Silver Skyline from 2010. I think this one has been well loved, as the back of the neck has been burnished to a very glossy finish. More than glossy, it feels a bit wet or sticky to me. I cleaned it with orange oil but no change. Is there a way to return the back of the neck to the way it used to be?

To be honest, I've been spoiled by my US Joe Osborne neck. But I have had a few Skylines and usually they have a very smooth, dry feel to them. Any ideas?

You could use some steel wool.

The easiest and most cost-effective solution is to buy another USA version.
