So is this where I sign up for my number? I just got me a [used] 2001 Lakland Skyline 55-01 a week and a half ago and I have to say - WOW!!!!

I used to think Lakland basses didn't look like anything amazing (this one is natural finish) and while all my other basses are black and unique looking (a Steinberger Synapse fretless, a Lightwave Saber SL, a OLP-5 MM2), I only had to strap a Lakland on and play it to understand how a good bass should sound/feel. That extra inch of length really helps the low B sound out which is one of the things I really love about this bass.

I got it from a guy who said he played out for many years in wedding bands and at various churches, and he was only selling it because he picked himself up a newer Lakland. Always best to get a bass from someone who loved it I say...

PM basspraiser for a number. But first to qualify you have to post a pic!

Sounds like you got a good one, and have sipped the kool-aid!

NBD!!!!
All right here she is! 55-64.
Just got it out of the box and snapped a pic. I'll post my first impressions here in a bit after a have a few minutes, but so far I'm liking what I'm seeing, and feeling.

Ok, here is my first impressions.

I have and have sold Skylines since 2002. The biggest difference I'm noticing on this one is, it seems the necks have gotten better.
I like the way the frets are in the fret board much better than previous 5 strings Skylines I've had. This is my first 5 string Skyline from indo, but did have a four string from there, so it could be that. The neck feels great!! Really reminds me of the US versions that I have played.

As far as tone... Man, WOW is all I have to say. First impressions are it's exactly what I wanted in a 5 string p bass, or any p bass for that matter. I just love that pick up.

I'll update more later after I gig with, but I'm sure I'll be very happy.

Nice to have new folks joining us with their Skylines! Soon they'll jump into the US pool and it'll be all over with, lol.

Man, I have been wanting a US model for over 10 years now. I'm going to do it after the kids get a little older and stop eating up my gear money. lol!! Even with the artist deal, they're still a too pricey for my budget right now.

I think Skylines measure up to MIA Fenders myself. Custom Shop, no, but Fender has really jacked up the prices on those in the past couple years.

I agree that they are good basses. As good as Fender Custom Shop? I doubt it. But good basses. As good as MIA Fender? Possibly. I have two now, and had three others previously.

Absolutely better than a MIA Fender. As far as the CS Fenders, everyone that I have played when I worked for GC years ago was delivered with a crap setup. Beautiful instruments, but given the option I will vote Lakland every time. Every Skyline I have played was perfect out of the box.

Admittedly, I have great disdain for Fender so my comments are biased in favor of Lakland.

I love Lakland basses. As I said I have owned 5 Skylines. But having played a number of MIA Fenders I would say IMO that they are on a par with them, but not better. I will say that I have owned 5 Skylines but no MIA Fender, so that should tell you which I prefer. But better? No.
