Lol, you're crazy man! After going through apr 20 Laklands over the last 5 or 6 years... they know me very well! Lotta enablers in these woods.

Hey guys, you are my only hope. I have checked my awesome Darryl Jones 2009 model, but since I got it about a year ago, I haven't been able to rectify a weak E string sound. I have done everything within luthiers reach (checking up and maintenance), so after a couple of checks, I suspect the neck pickup is what's giving me the trouble. The bass has Lakland single coil pickups.

I have checked the following without success:
1. Strings
2. Neck curve
3. Intonation
4. Stringing through the bridge instead of body
5. Pickup height
6. Wiring

If you think of something, it would be very helpful. Next idea is to buy new pickups...

44-14 Guess 14 means there not out for a while?

What do you think street is if 24 is retail.. or is 24 street?

I'd buy a CAR rosewood one of these if I could find a light one (Only reason I'm not on LPCarter's Classic is that it's heavier than I want)

Per JP...street prices:

44-14 = $2595
55-14 = $2775

This is a savings of $605 over a 44-94 and $745 on a 55-94!!!

What do you guys think of the Neopunch PJ vs. Lindy Fralins vs. Nordstrands?

I think the P (I believe to be the "vintage" wind) is very close to a Fralin in other words negligible.

I find the neo punch very "modern sounding"...the Hanson "vintage" is VERY Close to a Fralin ...I really missed my Fralin equipped BG PJ UNITIL I got my LOG bass with the Hanson Vintage P...that filled the sweet spot right there!!!

The Nordys (IMO) are in the middle. ....I have Nordys in my US BG PJ 5

Those are descriptors unless you can explain why they have virtue. I'm a huge fan of single coil pups, so that's definitely virtuous, and I would guess a single piece body has a more "natural" sound to it as there's no glue to disrupt the vibration through the body. But what's so advantageous about the "vintage" qualifiers?

I'm playing a bit of devil's advocate because we throw around terms like vintage and fat and assume everyone understands emphatically what they mean..

Gottcha...thought you were looking for specs....since there are a few owners out there (me NOT being one) I will let them expound on the virtues....

an "A" mark is something that is dealer related...not exactly sure but JP said it was nothing the public should be concerned with...

nice to have you hanging again....there HAVE been a couple of times where "that word" was used and you did not comment....I was getting concerned...

Being I am not in a band and have no time to commit to one... I can take a little time to enjoy the outside stuff and not play as much for the summer.
Before long I will be cooped up in the house during the 6-7 colder months and will get my chops back a bit then.
Trying to get back on here this week to catch up and see whats for sale out there.

I agree...was at a local rib fest yesterday (8 vendors...got through 7 and was "done"...all GREAT but just could not down another rib!...HARD time deciding whom to vote for....every place had a great "something")....anyways...it was like 90 degrees and the bands had to be sweating like crazy!!!

one of the bands was a CCR tribute band and they had the long hair....jeans and long sleeves button down shirts...what an awful way to spend 3 hours in the sun!!!!

on a thread- related note...the bass player was SOLID....playing a natural F&ND&R P bass with a mint guard...oh well...

you may be right, Carl did say something about such, and that he experimented on the matter. For my PJ5 (then a P5) he proposed a specific J that he made to work better with a P. Of course I said yes! I did like it.

Carl KNOWS how to put the "right J" with the "right P"...

Here IMHO is a great example of what a 50's P sounds like. Keith Ferguson and the Thunderbirds first record. Probably recorded with a bleeding b-15.

Gig tomorrow at a semi-local dive - in the "beer garden" (aka parking lot..) depending on weather.

Might try to install an Audere in my DJ4 tonight then hope it doesn't fail on the job!

Just got it out of the box and snapped a pic. I'll post my first impressions here in a bit after a have a few minutes, but so far I'm liking what I'm seeing, and feeling.

So is this where I sign up for my number? I just got me a [used] 2001 Lakland Skyline 55-01 a week and a half ago and I have to say - WOW!!!!

I used to think Lakland basses didn't look like anything amazing (this one is natural finish) and while all my other basses are black and unique looking (a Steinberger Synapse fretless, a Lightwave Saber SL, a OLP-5 MM2), I only had to strap a Lakland on and play it to understand how a good bass should sound/feel. That extra inch of length really helps the low B sound out which is one of the things I really love about this bass.


I got it from a guy who said he played out for many years in wedding bands and at various churches, and he was only selling it because he picked himself up a newer Lakland. Always best to get a bass from someone who loved it I say...

Lol!! yea I was thinking different pick guard, I thought this was white, (which I can't stand white), but it is actually more of a minty color. I'll see if it grows on me or not. If not I was thinking black, but tort would look good.

Ok, here is my first impressions.

I have and have sold Skylines since 2002. The biggest difference I'm noticing on this one is, it seems the necks have gotten better.
I like the way the frets are in the fret board much better than previous 5 strings Skylines I've had. This is my first 5 string Skyline from indo, but did have a four string from there, so it could be that. The neck feels great!! Really reminds me of the US versions that I have played.

As far as tone... Man, WOW is all I have to say. First impressions are it's exactly what I wanted in a 5 string p bass, or any p bass for that matter. I just love that pick up.

I'll update more later after I gig with, but I'm sure I'll be very happy.

Awe man that is beautiful!!! I notice that the p pickup on yours is backwards to mine. Mine has the 3 magnets on BEA and the 2 magnets on the D and G string.
