Also have a P-Retro on the shelf to try in the DPLEII (except I'm scared to find it doesn't fit plus might pass the Dude along (but probably not.))

If you decide to keep it and get Carl to route it, just have him add the routing for the p retro

You guys keep saying Lakland necks are so great...you're all a bunch of liars!
They're freeeeking awesome!! This DJ5 might just turn me into a Lakland-only nut like the rest of you whacko's!

I'm thinking about getting a simple 5 string passive Jazz and two Laklands seem perfect - The Joe Osborn and Daryll Jones
I'm concerned about the single coil pickups. Of course, all single coils are gonna hum! But I'd like to know from the people who play them here just how much hum do they get when they play.
I'll be using some effects - octave, envelope filter, overdrive, etc., and I want to know if I'll need to change to hum-cancelling pickups to do that.
Thanks.
Embrace the hum!
Yeah, no audience member ever left a show because pickup hum got on their nerves.![]()
I've been close a few times! There's really no excuse for it IMO with the invention of hum-canceling pickups and lots of ways to influence the tone to be more single coil like.
There's single coil, and then there's single coil-esque. It's like actual tube warmth vs simulated tube warmth. No matter how much people claim they are the same, they're not.
I totally agree that they are not the same. That said I'm of the mindset that single coils and tube amps both belong in the studio where their shortcomings can be dealt with more effectively and their unique qualities appreciated better. For live use, the alternatives are "close enough" to justify the benefits.
Do you guys use additional copper shielding?
