I should have my first Lakland waiting for me at home right now thanks to overbybr. I'm looking forward to getting home and checking it out!
Nice!Ben is a killer musician - multi instrumentalist and a damn good singer. One of my college buddies played drums with him in his old band Supergrub.
I got to meet him as a result outside a Roots concert at the electric factory in Philly. Really humble guy and genuinely nice.
Oh an he plays Laklands, so that automatically makes him cool
Well, he's definitely cool. I'm not sure if playing Laklands automatically makes one cool, I've met many LOGers and a lot of us are way too dorky to be cool.

For me, it's Larry Graham, but Verdine fits there too.Wicked. For some reason that bass makes me think of Verdine White. Rock on!

I assume those hot. I'd measure it and call fralin and tell them what you want totally as well as volume matching.
With normal traditional wind fralins he recommends +5% to match up. I bought a set of p+3% and split J+8% and for my traditional taste it was perfect.

is that the ice metallic blue one? I've only seen pics of one for sale...not crazy about the color, but dang does it look awesome on a HB!
Anyone want an East preamp for their dj4 or 5? My new dj5 came with it, but I'm a passive bass guy. Lemme know ASAP. Anyone from this thread gets first dibs.

Oh man that's tempting. Have a DJ4 Audere waiting to be installed. Would be fun and interesting to A/B with a J-Retro!
I have only experience with the P-retro. But that one, assuming the J-retro is similar, does what the Audere does (louder/fuller) but then, has another "gear" which kicks in, and makes it just sexier/better. Can't describe it, but in the P-retro, I called it the "viagra" switch.
Also have a P-Retro on the shelf to try in the DPLEII (except I'm scared to find it doesn't fit plus might pass the Dude along (but probably not.))
As Holdsg said, it's difficult to explain why it's better in concrete terms, but it is. It sounds "bigger" than the Audere did, and I personally felt the z-mode switch was useless on the Audere. I know some people really like it though, so YMMV. The bass sounds fuller, cleaner, tighter, the treble isn't overdone, but its noticeable, and the mids will sit wherever you want them to. If I was unable to have an outboard preamp, I would choose the East J-retro...
