Went from a 44-01 and a DJ4 a couple years ago for 2 55-01's as my main basses. Although I still have several other basses in my arsenal (J,P,6er, and a fretless) the 55-01's get about 95% of the gigging and play time. I love my 5'ers.

You can get a reamer for less than $10. That and a drill and a little patience is all you need. It can be done in about 30 seconds.

Also, this type of job shouldn't be so expensive. Tell 'em you do your own set up and that you just want the tuner to fit.
I don't recall ever changing the ferrule when I've installed D-tuners. I just leave the stock one in place. But, Hipshot is who you need to call, they made the stock tuners and D-tuner

There's NBD and then there's NSD! New strap day! I actually got this Moody strap a week or two ago, but today I got my Marty Bell logo correct back.
(Much better now...he paid for everything, shipping both ways and the logo...situation handled very professionally!)
Once I put the bass back together, complete now with a drop d lollipop tuner (thanks, zootsuitbass..) I realized that the Moody strap would go well with the sonic blue BG. The Moody is white with pink backing.

Random stroke of luck this evening..
I happened to be in the right place at the right time to check out 2 fresh from the factory beauties:
Freshly completed USA 44-64 PJ in trans.burgundy w/ J neck (I didn't pick it up or play it, but it's pretty!)
And.....
The (supposedly) first 55-14 available for retail sale:
Until tonight, I have not so much as laid a hand on a 5-string since 1998. I couldn't resist this one. It was FEATHER light. I would guess it's 7.75 - 8.25 pounds. Neck felt awesome (duh...) Even with that silly extra string on there!
I happened to be in the right place at the right time to check out 2 fresh from the factory beauties:

That is some nice grain on the 55-14, makes up for the lack of BEM on the neck, almost
Actually I was just noticing my crappy photo.. The neck was not BEM, but it did have very nice and very prominent grain on the fretboard. Not BEM (especially "90s BEM") but it was far from dull in appearance.

That PJ is nice, not crazy about that wine red color... its like "if you have to have a bass that matches your guitar player's SG..."

Call Hipshot and ask for the "metric" or "import" ferrule. I had to do that for all Hipshot US tuners that I put on Skylines.
